Finally Love Has Come
Jade slammed his lips to mine as he picked me up, causing me to wrap my legs around his hips as he walked into the bedroom.
He gently laid me out on the bed, letting his hands run from my face down to my hips as if memorizing the feel of my body.
He took the bottom of my shirt and started to lift it, kissing along my bare skin as it was exposed, letting his tongue glide, tasting me.

Everything about this moment was perfect and beautiful as if I’d been waiting all my life for Jade and my other guardians to help me trust my heart.

“What the fuck, Cassarah?” Cole barked the moment he saw me and rushed over. “Do you know how worried we’ve been? Where the hell did you two go last night that you couldn’t bother to inform the rest of us?”
“Don’t you dare talk to her like that,” Jade growled, shoving Cole away from me. “You might be her consort, but she is still our queen and will be treated that way. Cassarah was with me up in the castle. We went looking for something in the king’s study and ended up spending the night there.”
“You should have at least left a note with the viceroys that you left. I didn’t know if she’d been kidnapped or was lying hurt somewhere.
It’s my job to keep her safe, and if I don’t know where she is, how can I do that?
” Cole shot back. “Put yourself in my shoes, Reaper. What would you do if she went off with just me, and you didn’t know what happened or when she would be back?
Do you really feel like only having one of us is enough to keep her safe? ”
Hearing the fear in Cole’s voice had me moving around Jade and wrapping my arms around Cole. “I’m sorry. You’re absolutely right, and I should have left a note. When I asked Jade to take me up there, I didn’t think we’d end up being there all night.”
Cole hugged me so tightly I was having trouble breathing.
When he loosened his hold, he gripped my chin and turned my face up to his, slamming his mouth to mine.
He kissed me like I’d been gone for months, not hours, and even though I’d just spent the night with Jade, my body yearned for Cole.
Now that I had let myself accept how I felt about these men, I could understand how easy it is to love more than one at the same time.
Each gave me something the other couldn’t, making every connection unique.
When Cole broke our kiss, he rested his head against mine, holding me. “Don’t do that to me again, little mouse. I’m not sure my heart can take it.”
“I’m sorry I worried you,” I whispered just for him to hear.
“You know some of us were worried about her as well,” Dayson interjected when it didn’t seem like Cole would ever let me go. “You need to work on the whole sharing thing there, brother.”
Cole let out an irritated huff but released me to face the others in the room.
All of them looked upset on various levels, but none seemed quite as angry as Cole had been.
Still, I had been selfish in what I’d done by not letting any of them know we’d be gone all night.
Part of being a good leader was learning from your mistakes, and this had been a misstep on my part.
“I owe you all an apology. Cole’s right, and I should have left a note or told anyone else back at the village hall where I was going.
Then when I didn’t come back, at least you would have known where to start looking.
I will do my best to ensure it doesn’t happen again. ”
Abbott stepped forward and grasped my hands.
“We are learning how best to look out for you as well, and I think the shock of not knowing how to find you if we lost you hit us all hard. Being in the village makes us feel safe, and we’ve let down our guard when your protection needs to be at the top of our list all the time, not just when we feel danger is possible.
These people are growing to love and respect you, but there will come a time when you have to make a call they won’t agree with, and it will make them lash out.
As your guardians, we need to be aware that this can happen at any time without warning.
So if you need a break or time to yourself, you just need to let us know so we can make that happen and ensure your safety. ”
Hearing Abbott talk, I realized I had needed a break, a night to just be Cassarah, a woman in love, and not the Dragon Queen. “We’ll figure this out together. We are all going to make mistakes… it’s learning from them that’s important.”
“Wise words, little warrior. Now come, eat breakfast with us, and fill us in on what you were looking for,” Izel instructed, pulling out a seat for me.
At this moment, I knew we could make this work—all of us together. Now we just had to survive the battle that was looming in on us.
