Chapter 26

ALEXIS

Owen stood in the lounge area, perusing the smorgasbord of food spread over the floor. I’d made a pillow nest in front of the TV, and Alicia graciously left the apartment to us for the night—after not so subtly hinting that we could be as rowdy as we wanted.

Since her crude insinuation, I had turned skittish. I hadn’t dwelled on the potential sexual component of our date… Well, that’s a lie.

But I pushed those thoughts to the corner of my mind, choosing to get swept up in the thrill of the date instead. And I was not left disappointed.

Our day was magical. Filled with laughter, subtle flirting and, at times, light petting—which had me tuned in and turned all the way on.

Letting him work alongside the Cyclones physiotherapist was a great opportunity for both of us. For Owen, he received an amazing career experience and networked with some of the best in the game. It also gave me a well-needed breather from the electrifying sexual tension.

I sat amongst the cushions, twisting one in my lap. “I thought since we’ve had such a busy day, you might want to stay in and watch a movie? But if you’d prefer to go out, we can—”

“No!” he blurted. Dropping down beside me, he laid a loose hand over my fidgeting one. “No. Lex, this is perfect.” Then, he mumbled something under his breath that I didn’t quite catch.

After we ate, cleaned and showered, we met back on the comfortable, cushioned floor, a random movie playing in the background. It was all very domestic, old memories blending with the new.

It felt fresh. The untouched environment gave us a secluded space where we could keep each other company without any external pressure.

Soon, evening turned into night as Owen regaled his session with the Cyclones team. He was eager, his words spilling over as he radiated with passion.

We talked for hours, neither one of us wanting to break the bond. But sleep would not be denied, the pesky bitch pulling on our consciousness.

Inadvertently, we found ourselves entangled in one another. Owen reclined on his back with me snuggled into his side, my head laid heavy on his chest.

My hand found a home at the base of his neck, his steady heartbeat thumping against my fingertips. If I was alert enough, I probably would have removed myself from the precarious position, but when his fingers began running through my hair, there was no way I was moving.

I was selfish, buried in the scent of my old lover, wishing for what we had lost, dreaming of a former time.

Owen must have been thinking of the same notion as his tired voice murmured, “Thank you for the date, Lex. There’s no way I can top something like that. And I finally got to see where you lived…”

I sighed at the undertone of regret in his voice. “I know there is nothing that can replace the time we missed, but I wanted to show you a small part of my life when we were apart. I didn’t mean… Was that the right thing to do?”

“Hell yes. I’m privileged that you were willing to share this with me. It has somehow made me feel closer to you.”

His words floored me. My head tilted back till my gaze met his soft brown eyes—the same ones I had willingly gotten lost in thousands of times before.

We were caught in a tide, my senses spiking with overwhelming need I couldn’t resist when that gravitational force pulled me in closer to capture his lips with mine.

A split second of hesitation led to an unfurling of lustful desperation as he opened his mouth, granting me access.

His tongue danced with mine, at first teasing with lazy strokes, which soon twisted into an aggressive assault. I pushed in tighter, and he didn’t retreat. If anything, he crushed me closer, turning onto his side so our fronts were completely aligned.

He bit down on my lower lip. I gasped.

I sucked on his tongue. He groaned.

And when his palm ran down my spine, my leg instinctively hitched high over his hip, my centre colliding with his.

“ Fuckkkk… Lex, we have to stop, baby—”

I cut off his musing by tracking my fingers through his hair, preventing him from leaving. “One more, Owen.” Our short breathes circled together as I kissed him between words. “I need to feel you next to me. Need to feel you’re real. Need to feel your lips. One more kiss, Owen… Just one more. Please. ”

Owen growled, on the edge of letting go. “You know I can’t deny you, baby. I’ll give you anything. Fucking everything. ”

We were a tangled mess, glued to one another without enough space to breathe. Yet, we made do, lost in the surge of desire that had us overtaken.

I began to grind into him as his hand travelled down over my ass, the tips of his fingers pushing against my centre from behind. His hand encouraged my writhing as his length hardened to granite against me.

We both remained fully clothed. Still, that didn’t stop the heat permeating between my legs. I pushed back against his fingers, searching for more pressure, more friction.

“So warm. So wet,” he whispered. “Grind on me, baby.”

My mind ran wild, wishing he would slip my pyjama shorts and panties to the side to sink his fingers deep.

The fleeting fantasy had me whimpering as my walls pulsated from his touch, his presence, his lust-filled voice.

When he sucked on my neck, I was done.

My climax took me over, and I barely registered Owen’s in return as he moaned low and deep in the shell of my ear.

Sated, my eyes began to droop.

Warm lips feathered against my lids. “Up, Lex. I’ve made a damn mess in my pants, and so have you. Let’s clean up and meet in bed. Then, I’ll snuggle the shit out of you.”

I grunted, latching on tighter and refusing to move.

Owen chuckled before he swung me up into his arms. “Sleep, baby. I’ve got you.”

I distantly processed some rustling and manoeuvring, and the last thing I remembered was Owen pulling me into his embrace. I could have sworn he said, “I love you.” But that could have been my dreams, wishing it so.

When I finally woke with the sun, my surroundings managed to click back online.

After I dry humped Owen into oblivion, he kept his word and snuggled the shit out of me.

I began the day with the biggest smile on my face.
