She wasn’t what I was expecting when we found a fully naked adult instead of a child when the alarm went off.

And she kept surprising me. Not all demons who got their wings could afford to recover in a posh suite in a mansion with servants taking care of their needs.

Some of them couldn’t even afford to take one day off of work and had to risk their wings.

It wasn’t as swank as Satan or Lucifer’s place, but my mother had a giant house and servants. I couldn’t leave until I got my wings. I’d been counting down those days, but I also knew damned well my mother was going to fuck mine up so she could kick me out and have me shunned.

I trusted Lilith’s magic just as much as Sydney did.

Lilith was more responsible for the magic running in my veins than my mother was.

Sydney could have just asked for her wings to be fixed and us to spread the word, but she was having it recorded.

People could watch the video until they got the spell down and Mammon and Asmodeus couldn’t bury it.

As far as I knew, Abaddon was responsible for all social media in Hell and he was on our side.

Satan looked like he was about to have kittens and I didn’t get it.

He said he didn’t want this information hidden, and he was a lot bigger than the worms who did.

Of course, he said a lot of shit and we were saying a lot of shit around him.

The logical explanation was that all of this had been Satan the whole time.

They all might trust him, but I was keeping my eye on him.

“So, I understand what you are trying to do and you boys really made a mess of things here. Which is why I’m going to be in your video directing things and Celix is going to do the spell,” Lilith said.

Bold choice. Felix demons were more known for their fangs and claws than being strong magic users. They did have magic that all demons shared, just not any of the extras that demons like Nero and I had.

Having Celix do the spell would show all of Hell that any demon could do this and just because Felid and Canid demons didn’t have wings didn't mean they were lesser.

“Listen, I’ll be the first to admit things got all cocked up here as the centuries passed, but if you do it like this, it could cause riots.”

“Then let them riot,” Sydney said. “No one has ever gotten anyone to stop oppressing them by asking. How many demons have lost the ability to fly because they didn’t have this spell and they aren’t the child of a Prince of Hell to have servants doing everything for them while they heal?

Your dumbass brothers need some healthy fear of an angry mob. ”

“The thing about angry mobs is that they can’t be controlled. I incited one centuries ago and started witch hunting, which wasn’t my intention.”

“Not your best work,” Lilith said. “Neither was allowing your brothers to hide this spell.”

“Sorry, but why did you and my father go along with this?”

That was the question. I hated everyone unless they gave me a reason to like them, not the other way around. My mother and my siblings were full on Satan fans, so I didn’t exactly like him on principle. That changed a little when I met him, but my opinion was backsliding.

“So, Mammon, Asmodeus, Belphegor, and Beelzebub weren’t warriors, but they are still angels.

They could easily smite an entire city of demons if they wanted to.

Asmodeus thinks only angels should have wings, but Mammon thinks demons are an affront to the natural order.

Belphegor doesn’t have a single original thought in his head and Beelzebub is a bit of a twisted fuck.

It was either let them think they had the upper hand or deal with genocide.

I know they’ve fucked up and we don’t get along much anymore, but we’re the last of our rebellion and I really don’t want to have to kill any of them. ”

Yeah, Satan wasn’t really moving up on my likeability scale. I got what he was saying. He was trauma bonded to those other dicks. He didn’t need to kill them, he just needed to keep them in line. This motherfucker was willing to sacrifice demons’ wings rather than just threaten them a little.

One of these assholes kidnapped Lucifer. They put Sydney and all of Hell in danger.

Because they wouldn’t stand up to them before, we were not at the point where at least one of them was going to have to die.
