The First Night of Forever

The last of the wedding guests had departed by midnight, leaving the penthouse wrapped in a profound, peaceful quiet. The scent of white roses and expensive champagne still lingered in the air, a fragrant ghost of the day’s triumphs.

In the nursery, four-year-old Kai was completely dead to the world, sprawled facedown across his bed, still wearing his tiny dress trousers but missing his shirt and bowtie. He was clutching his velvet ring pillow like a teddy bear, snoring softly.

Luciel stood by the crib side, a soft, tired smile gracing his lips. He reached down, gently pulling the heavy duvet over his son’s shoulders before leaning down to press a quiet kiss to the boy’s warm cheek.

“Goodnight, my little ring-bearer,” Luciel whispered.

A pair of heavy, warm arms slipped around his waist from behind, a familiar, solid chest pressing firmly against his back. Adrian buried his face in the crook of Luciel’s neck, inhaling deeply, his broad shoulders relaxing completely as he let out a long, contented sigh.

“He’s out cold,” Adrian murmured, his voice a low, rumbling vibration against Luciel’s skin. “Marcus let him have three glasses of sparkling apple cider. He was running on pure sugar and adrenaline.”

Luciel turned around within Adrian’s embrace, his hands coming up to rest on the lapels of Adrian’s unbuttoned tuxedo jacket. He looked up into those intense green eyes, his own blue ones sparkling in the dim light of the nursery’s nightlight.

“Husband,” Luciel whispered, the word tasting sweet and entirely surreal on his tongue.

Adrian’s gaze darkened with a fierce, sudden heat. A slow, breathtaking smile broke across his handsome face. “Say it again.”

“Husband,” Luciel repeated, a soft laugh escaping him as Adrian instantly scooped him up, lifting his feet entirely off the floor and carrying him out of the nursery, closing the door quietly behind them.

----

Adrian didn’t stop walking until they reached the master bedroom. He kicked the door shut, locking it with a definitive click before setting Luciel down on the edge of the massive mattress.

The room was bathed in the amber glow of the city skyline filtering through the glass.

Adrian stepped back just far enough to shed his heavy tuxedo jacket, tossing it carelessly onto a nearby chair, followed quickly by his bowtie and vest.

He stood there in his white dress shirt, his chest heaving slightly, his eyes locked onto his partner.

Luciel sat on the edge of the bed, slowly unbuttoning the cuffs of his ivory jacket. He looked down at his left hand, watching the sleek platinum band catch the ambient light of the city.

“It feels different,” Luciel said softly, his voice thick with emotion.

“For years, I felt like I was living in a beautiful dream that I’d eventually have to wake up from. Like the court would find a loophole, or my own insecurities would tear us apart. But looking at this ring... it feels permanent.”

Adrian crossed the room, sinking onto his knees on the carpet directly between Luciel’s legs—a striking mirror of the position he had taken four years ago, on the night of their greatest misunderstanding. But tonight, there was no alcohol, no grief, and no ghosts. There was only absolute clarity.

Adrian reached up, his large hands gently cupping Luciel’s face, forcing the younger man to look down at him.

“It is permanent, Luciel,” Adrian said, his voice dropping into a thick, fierce baritone. “There are no more battles to fight. No more judges, no more secrets. You are my husband. Legally, spiritually, entirely. I belong to you.”

Luciel’s eyes filled with a sudden, hot rush of tears—happy tears that he didn’t bother to wipe away. He leaned forward, pressing his forehead against Adrian’s, his breath hitching. “I love you so much, Adrian.”

“Show me,” Adrian growled softly.

----

Adrian surged upward, his massive, muscular frame pinning Luciel back onto the dark silk sheets of the bed.

The ivory jacket was frantically peeled away, thrown to the floor along with their shirts, until they were bare-chested against one another, skin meeting skin in a familiar, intoxicating rush of heat.

Adrian’s mouth came down on Luciel’s with a possessive, bruising passion that made Luciel arch his back off the mattress.

It wasn’t the frantic, desperate hunger of their reunion in Paris; this was a slow, deliberate worship.

Adrian’s large hands traced the smooth, firm lines of Luciel’s chest, his thumbs brushing over his flat, pale nipples with a deep, reverent tenderness.

He remembered the history of this body. He remembered the milk, the sacrifice, and the softness that had saved his son.

And though Luciel’s biology had long since returned to normal, Adrian kissed his chest with the exact same fierce devotion, tracing every freckle and every blue vein with his tongue.

“Adrian... ah, Adrian,” Luciel gasped, his fingers violently tangling into the thick brown hair at the back of Adrian’s head as Adrian lowered his mouth to suckle firmly against his skin.

A sharp, toe-curling wave of arousal crashed through Luciel’s core, his thighs tightening around Adrian’s broad hips.

The intercourse that followed was deep, rhythmic, and entirely unhurried.

They had all the time in the world. Every movement was a celebration of the family they had built, a silent dialogue of shared trauma turned into unyielding strength.

Adrian moved with a powerful, driving grace, his green eyes never leaving Luciel’s flushed, ecstatic face, catching every broken declaration of love that tore from the younger man’s throat.

“You’re mine,” Adrian panted, his chest heaving as the tension in the room reached a fever pitch. He gripped Luciel’s hands, locking their fingers together, their platinum rings clicking softly in the dark. “My husband. My home.”

“Always... ah!... always yours,” Luciel sobbed out, his vision blurring with pure euphoria as the waves of a shattering, powerful climax washed over him, pulling Adrian over the edge right along with him with a loud, unrestrained cry of surrender.

----

As the early morning hours began to creep into the sky, the bedroom was quiet, filled only with the sound of their synchronized breathing.

Luciel lay curled tightly against Adrian’s side, his head resting securely on his husband’s broad chest, listening to the steady, calm thumping of Adrian’s heart. Adrian’s massive arm was wrapped around him, pulling the duvet up over their shoulders to shield them from the morning chill.

Luciel lifted his left hand, resting it against Adrian’s chest, their matching platinum bands resting side by side against the dark hair of Adrian’s torso.

“What are you thinking about?” Adrian murmured, his voice a sleepy, content rumble as he kissed the top of Luciel’s head.

Luciel smiled, a peaceful, beautiful expression in the dark. “Just thinking about how loud the silence used to be in this house. And how quiet it is now.”

Adrian chuckled softly, tightening his grip around Luciel’s waist, pulling him even closer if it were physically possible. “The storm is over, beautiful. We made it.”

Luciel closed his eyes, drifting off into a deep, dreamless sleep, knowing that down the hall, their son was safe, and in this bed, his heart was entirely anchored for the rest of his life.
