Chapter 27 Jaseon Jr #2
“Trust me, this isn’t my favorite place to be.
” Young chuckled, stuffing his hands in his slacks as he looked around.
“I’ve been on the force for over twenty years, and I’ve seen a lot of things.
What you guys do…” He shivered from his thoughts, not bothering to finish.
“Anyway, I just have a few questions for you about Detective Hines.”
Jaw clenching at the sound of his name, I stared at the captain, waiting for him to get on with the question. If he wanted a reaction out of me, he wasn’t going to get one. TJ was on borrowed time, so this conversation was for his amusement and not mine.
“I hope you niggas don’t need help bringing him in.” I looked at both of them before walking over toward my desk. Grabbing my clipboard to see what was on the agenda for the day, I frowned at seeing we didn’t have any autopsies scheduled.
Do I need to go out and kill some niggas or something?
“Say your spill, Cap. Dr. Massey tends to get in trouble when I leave him unattended.”
Hearing the doctor simper, Captain Young smirked before nodding.
“Very well. First, I want to say your sister is in my prayers.” I met his sincere eyes as I glanced over my shoulder at the mention of Karlie.
“She nor her patients or coworkers deserved that strife or pain. I want you to know we’re diligently searching for TJ and hope to bring him in soon. ”
“I hear you two have a complicated relationship,” Chief Bullock chimed in as he eyeballed me. “He went from being a great officer to a homicidal demon. Do you have any insight as to why?
I took his girl, killed his mother, and proved he was a bitch like his dead-ass pappy.
“Nah, I don’t know shit about that nigga outside the fact that he’s a coward and a dead man walking.
” I turned, glaring with a scowl, causing both men to take a couple of steps back.
“Don’t associate me with having shit to do with that bitch-ass nigga.
I told you a long time ago, Young, that he was a hoe, and now, it’s time for you to do your job and find him.
After the pain he’s caused my family, I won’t give a fuck about this job if I catch him.
I will save the tax-paying citizens in this town a lot of money with what I plan to do if he comes my way. ”
Looking back and forth between each other, they nodded before heading toward the door. They could feel how they wanted, but I meant every word.
“I know emotions are high, and I won’t put that on record,” Chief Bullock stated before leaving the morgue. “If you can think of anything that can help us find him, don’t hesitate to reach out.”
“Have a good day, fellas.” I placed my hands in the pockets of my scrubs, ignoring his statement. “Be safe out there. Niggas are wicked.”
“You are something else.” Dr. Massey patted my shoulder as I stood and watched them leave. “You have to be mindful of what you say, son. You insinuated doing something quite dangerous and unlawful if you were to find him.”
Angling my head toward him, I held his stare as a grin formed across my face. “To insinuate means that I’m suggesting what could possibly happen. I can assure you that nothing is suggestive about what I’m going to do with that nigga. Get a fresh slab ready, Doc. We’re going to have company soon.”
Me:
You still call yourself mad at a nigga? Stop frontin like you don’t miss me.
Bloss Baby:
I’m not fronting, I don’t. Now go away. You’re interrupting my night with my new man.
Me:
The way I’m going to fold your ass up when I get my hands on you is going to put Auntie Annie to shame. See you soon, mama.
Placing my phone in the cup holder, I didn’t bother waiting for a response.
Blossom wanted a rise out of me, and the only thing she was doing was making it harder for herself.
I knew all about her crashing at Stacy’s house since she had left mine, and I hoped she knew that was not going to stop me from pulling up and putting her ass through the mattress.
While I wanted to see Blossom, I had a more pressing issue at hand.
After the officers left my job today, it was business as usual with Dr. Massey and me.
There was a car accident on the outskirts of town that kept us pretty active.
While all I wanted to do was go home and crash, I decided to go pull up on my sister.
She’d been on my mind since earlier, and I wanted to see with my own eyes that she was all right.
The shooting at her rehabilitation center had really been fucking with me more than I let on, and I needed to have a word with her.
“You think I give a fuck about any of that shit you’re talking about, Karlie?! If I find out you’ve been going behind my back and—”
Jogging up the porch steps, I banged on her door like the feds, talking myself out of kicking that muthafucka off the hinges. There was no way in hell a nigga was raising his voice at my goddamn sister.
“What the fuck—” Percy, her bitch-ass boyfriend, frowned as he snatched the door open. “JJ, what’s up, man?”
“What y’all in here watching?” I pushed past him and marched my ass right inside the house. Seeing my sister on the couch crying caused me to see red. Turning to face him, I pulled Kimbo from my back, ready to slit his throat. “Why is my sister crying?”
“JJ, please!” Karlie scrambled from the couch as fast as her cast would allow her. That pissed me off even more because she was clearly in pain. “It’s not what you think—”
“Sit down, baby.” I pushed her off me gently, my eyes still on her bitch of a nigga. “I don’t like to repeat myself.”
Fear flashed in his eyes as he dragged them from my knife to me, but he did his best to mask it. However, it was too late. The bitch in him was screaming too loudly.
“Man, what me and my girl have going on don’t have anything to do with you.” He gulped loudly, still standing in the doorway. “You need to let me run my house and not question what I do in it.”
Taking slow steps toward him, he started to shake like the bitch he was. Using the tip of my blade, I ran it across his cheek, slicing his skin just enough for small droplets of blood to appear. Tears welled in his eyes immediately.
“Karlie McKnight is and will always be my business, pussy.” I stared at him as I continued to drag the knife down to his neck.
“A nigga with child-bearing hips and thighs thicker than hers will never be a man of this house.” Pressing the blade into his neck, he whimpered as a tear fell.
“Get the fuck away from me, sissy-ass nigga.”
Tripping over himself, he flew out of the front door before the words left my mouth.
I watched as he jumped into his beat-up Mustang and burned rubber, leaving the driveway.
Closing the door behind me, I took deep breaths as I wiped his blood on a coat I assumed was his.
Turning back to face Karlie, I smiled brightly with my arms stretched wide for a hug.
“Hey, sweet girl. Come hug your baby brother.”
Staring at me in disbelief, she wobbled over to me as best as she could and fell into my arms. Nuzzling into my chest, she grumbled under her breath, but loud enough for me to hear. “You’re fuckin’ insane, JJ.”
“I’ll never have common sense where you’re concerned.” I wrapped her in my arms as tight as I could, all while trying not to hurt her. Sighing heavily, I pulled back, lifting her chin so I could scan the scars and bruises on her face. “I am so sorry, baby.”
Karlie may not know what’s going on between TJ and us, but had I killed him sooner, he would never have had the chance to do this to her. Had I lost my sister, there was no telling what type of chaos and devastation I would have brought to this city.
“I’m fine, JJ.” She smiled softly, grabbing my hand and leading me toward her couch. Like Blossom, she was watching some TV where ratchet women threw drinks at each other. “You didn’t have to do Percy like that. He probably won’t be back.”
“Good riddance.” I tucked her under my arm, kissing her temple. “You don’t need that bull dagger-ass nigga anyway.” She slapped her hand over her mouth when a giggle slipped.
“You’re not right for that.”
“Did his cussing have anything to do with the cigar smell that’s lingering?” I arched my brow at her, causing her to stiffen. “Marshall been over here?”
Now, I wasn’t always the smartest man, but I knew my boy and his scents. We’d been friends long enough for me to know when he’s been in a room, but I was confused as to why he’d been inside my sister’s home.
“Yes, he stopped by and checked on me.” She wiggled from underneath me, putting space between us, but avoiding eye contact. “He just wanted to make sure I didn’t need anything, is all. Percy is just jealous for no reason.”
“I’ll kill him.” I leaned forward, meaning every word. “Both of them.”
Karlie was my big sister, but she was also my baby.
My entire life, I had been protective of her, and that would never change.
Marshall was like a brother to me, and I knew him as much as I knew Jax, Jamari, and Jamir.
If he ever crossed the line and played with me about my sister, it was lights out for him.
“Keep your threats, JJ. You’re just as dramatic as your father.” She rolled her eyes, pushing off her couch before wobbling into the kitchen. “Anyway, how’s Blossom? She told me about what you did at the coffee shop today. It’s like you were born to show your ass.”
“You talked to my girl?” I followed her into the kitchen, grabbing her tub of ice cream, and nodding for her to take a seat while I fixed her some. “Since when are y’all friends and shit? Y’all don’t even know each other.”
I may have been talking shit, but I loved the fact that all the girls loved Blossom. My mother called me every day to let me know I needed to do whatever it took to get back in her good graces. If Breonna McKnight liked you, there was no way I could let you go.
“Blossom is one of the girls now.” She grinned and thanked me as I handed her the bowl. “We’re planning an outing with just the ladies. She said she’s finally single, and she’s ready to enjoy life and—Wait! JJ, come here, fool!”
Hearing her laugh behind me, I grabbed my things to leave until I felt her grip my wrist. Mugging her little ass, I watched as the tears from her laughter ran down her cheeks. I didn’t know what the fuck was so damn funny.
“I don’t want y’all hussies talking to her no more.” I frowned as I jabbed her shoulder. “Jaycee and Malaya will have my baby swinging from a pole and shit. And what does she mean by single? Blossom is a kept woman!”
“You really like her, don’t you?” She smirked, taking my keys from me before closing and locking her door. “I never thought I would see the day.”
Dragging my hands down my face, I closed my eyes and sighed deeply. “Karlie, I don’t like her, I love her.” Her eyes bulged at my confession. “I want her. I need her. I have to get her back home to me.”
Beaming, she jumped up and down like a kid in a candy store, forgetting all about her broken leg.
Grabbing my hand, she dragged me back into the kitchen, sliding her bowl of ice cream toward me as she leaned onto the counter.
She placed her chin on top of her fist as her eyes sparkled with interest.
“Let’s talk about how you’re going to win back my sister.”
