5. Chapter Four
Chapter Four
Eve
“ A iden, I’m home,” I call out as I close the front door behind me. It’s strangely quiet throughout the little town home. I set my purse and keys down on the table near the front door. I listen carefully for his indie alternative music, but there’s nothing.
Suddenly Sin pounces in front of me out of nowhere and I let out a little shriek.
“What the fuck, Sin,” I croak out with my hand still pressed against my chest. Fucking cat’s going to give me a damn heart attack.
“Where’s your master, hmm,” I murmur as I walk into the kitchen setting down the huge bag of snacks on the counter. I picked up the snacks for our movie marathon night on my way home from the bookstore.
I walk down the hallway to check Aiden’s room, but the lights are off and he’s nowhere in sight. I bite my bottom lip as I pull a bright purple hair scrunchie off my wrist to tie my hair up in a messy bun. That’s not like him to be late, but I refuse to get worried just yet.
I walk into my room and pull off the cat costume leaving it where it lands. So, maybe he was a little right, but I would never admit that out loud. A little sigh leaves me from escaping the arching confinements of that leather onesie. I pull my comfy sweats on before sitting on the edge of my bed to pull on my fuzzy socks.
Still no Aiden. I pull my phone from my bra since this outfit has no pockets whatsoever, and I shoot him a text.
Me: when are you going to be home? I’m home and you’re not here. Are we still having a horror movie marathon? Also, Sin has a feral glint in her eyes, should I feed her?
Walking back into the kitchen I start tapping the toe of my boot against the tile floor in a nervous tick as I wait for his response.
Aiden: yeah I should be home soon-ish
Aiden: I’m sure Sin would love you forever if you feed her.
Me: sure *eyeroll*
Me: your cat hates me
I turn to find Sin already glaring at me, and I cock an eyebrow at the damn cat. Of course, I would be on feeding duty.
Me: anyway, I picked up snacks on the way home
Aiden: did you get m the real question is what the hell was soon-ish to him. That was well over two hours ago, and he’s still a no-show. When I got home, I had expected him to already be home. I’m usually the one that’s late for everything. I would argue fashionably late.
I couldn’t wait to get out of the bookstore as fast as I could clock out. It was like watching paint dry with how long it took for my shift to be over. Halloween has always been a favorite holiday for me, but on the flip side the holiday always brings out all the crazies.
I’m about to lose my shit in the next three seconds if he doesn’t walk through that damn door. I let out a frustrated noise causing Sin to hiss right back at me. I glare at the cat, and it glares right back. Great, I’m having a staring contest with a damn cat. Then again this isn’t an ordinary cat, now, is it?
I may give Aiden a hard time about his little obsession with the paranormal world, but what he doesn’t know is that I know far more than I let on. If he ever found out he’d probably be upset with me, but it’s not something you just go around shouting from the rooftops. Shit would get awkward real fast.
Instead, of continuing to freak out over things that are out of my control I plop my butt on the couch. I snatch up the remote and turn on the TV. I’ll just watch some supernatural while I wait for Aiden to show up. If he isn’t here at one or two episodes, I’ll go check the cemetery.
