Introduction
Eden felt his sudden stillness.
And it was how she imagined it would feel when a star collapsed in on itself in some giant, epic implosion. She knew without even needing to open her eyes that he had seen the box of spare tests, so she opened them anyway because choosing not to see something didn’t stop it from happening.
Harris was holding one of the boxes in his hand. His beautiful carved face looked like a bronze Emesa battle mask, and she felt her ribs snap tight as his gray gaze locked on to hers. She knew that she had gone pale and that there was no way to hide that.
“You can’t be pregnant. We used a condom.”
There was a short, stifling silence as his gaze switched to the other boxes on the counter, then back to her face.
“Are you pregnant?” he said hoarsely.
