Chapter 62

CHAPTER SIXTY-TWO

U nable to take watching another episode of Love on the Rocks , Larissa turned the television off. As she stared around the clean living room she had dusted and mopped that morning, she was at a loss as to what to do next. After going on a cleaning spurt for the last couple of days, there was nothing left to do.

Drumming her fingers on the arm of the couch, she debated working on the mound of paperwork on the table. Nah … she preferred to work on that in the early evenings.

She got up and wandered through the house, trying to find something to do. You could have gone to lunch and movie with Mom, Lana, and Priss , she reminded herself. But she’d turned down the invitation, because she had looked forward to some me time. Moon would be at work during the day, and her mother would be out of the house, giving her free reign to do whatever she wanted to do.

When she found herself back in the living room without anything to do, she went into the garage. Disappointed, she was about to give up when her eyes settled on the car. Both Moon’s car and hers could use a washing.

Happy, she gathered everything she would need then opened the garage door, Backed both cars out, then got busy.

After cleaning the inside of Moon’s car first, she switched to hers. Of the two, hers needed cleaning the most. She didn’t know why he owned a car, anyway. Unless they went somewhere to together, his main mode of transportation was his motorcycle.

A couple of times, she had asked if they could take his motorcycle when they went out, to which he had used the excuse of her being pregnant but promised to take her for a ride once the baby was born. It was one of the things she was looking forward to the most, ranking higher than the baby no longer being wrapped around her bladder.

Humming, she crawled out of the back seat of her car. She brushed her sweat-dampened bangs away from her eyes and pressed a hand to the middle of her back. Thank goodness she was wearing a pair of blue jean shorts and a tank top which Killyama had given her that read “ Mama Knows Best. ”

She went to the spigot at the side of the garage to turned on the water hose. After wetting each car, she turned the water off, dipped her mitt into the soapy water she had prepared, and then started scrubbing Moon’s car.

As she sang along with the music coming from the radio in the garage, it didn’t take long before she moved on to her car. With her back to the road, she heard a motorcycle coming down the street. She must have been outside longer than she supposed for Moon to be coming home.

She leaned over the trunk to reach a couple of twigs that must have blown down, then turned to greet Moon when his bike pulled up next to the car.

As he turned his motorcycle off, she said, “Hi, I didn’t realize it was getting so late—”

“What in the fuck do you think you’re doing?” He didn’t let her finish her sentence.

Larissa frowned at him. “I’m washing the cars.”

“Your mother and sisters have been calling you. I called. Why didn’t you answer the fucking phone?”

“I must have left my cell phone inside.”

Moon was too angry to care about her excuse. “They’re worried sick.”

Larissa straightened off the car as Moon took out his cell phone.

“She’s fine. She was outside. There’s no need for you to come. I’m here. I took off the rest of the day.”

Feeling bad that Moon had left early. she started to apologize when he ended the call. “I’m sor—”

“If you wanted your car washed so damn badly, why didn’t you just ask me? Or did you just need an excuse to show your ass to everyone in the neighborhood?”

Disconcerted, it took a couple of minutes for her to gather her scattered wits.

Jutting her chin angrily, she raised herself to her full height. “Don’t you ever dare to speak to me in that tone again.” She was unaware that her plain features had taken on a rosy glow, turning her eyes into a magnificent shade of golden brown that gave her a beauty normally not witnessed by others around her. “I didn’t ask you to wash them because you work constantly, and I didn’t want you to have to spend your only day off washing the cars.”

“You didn’t have to wear shorts showing your ass!”

“Look around you!” she shouted back at him. “Who’s here to see?” Larissa waved her hand at the block filled with half-built homes. “No one is here other than us.” She pulled off the scrubbing mitt and threw it into the soapy water bucket, not caring that the water splashed onto Moon. Then, turning on her heel, she stomped to the spigot to turn on the water hose.

“What are you doing?”

“Guess.” She sarcastically gave him a harassed glance as she squeezed the handle on the end of the hose to start squirting the soap suds off the car.

“Give it to me. I’ll do it.”

“You want it?” she asked with make-believe sweetness. “You can have it.” Switching the nozzle to full blast, she pretended to hand it to him. Instead, when the nozzle was within a couple of inches of his face, she let him have it full force.

“What the fuck!” he yelled.

“I told you not to use that tone with me.” She danced backward when he tried to take the hose from her while keeping the hose trained on him. “ Ooo …you aren’t such a big man now, are you?” she goaded him.

When he nearly managed to tear the hose out of her hand, she ran to the side of the car. Positioning herself, she aimed the nozzle so that all she had to do was use her wrist to send the spray across the roof of the car in whichever direction Moon tried to escape.

“Tsk, tsk.” She clicked her tongue at him, drenched hair clinging to his face. “You look all wet.” She chuckled, her free hand slapping the roof of the car. “You don’t look so sexy now, do ya? You look like a drowned rat!”

Her merriment was short lived when Moon suddenly sank out of sight. That was when the reality of what she had done made her sprint toward the garage. Throwing the hose at him when he tried to catch her, she was smart enough to become frightened when she saw the metal nozzle hitting him on the side of his face.

“Sorry, that was an accident!” she screamed, reaching the door into the house. She slammed it door, locked it, then took off running toward their bedroom.

“Oh God. Oh God! He’s going to kill me!” Gasping, she had almost made it to the hallway leading to their room when she saw the door opening.

Darn it, why hadn’t she locked the door? Oh Lord, he’s going to catch me.

The frantic thought had her rushing into the bedroom. Turning to slam the door after her, she barreled into Moon.

“Have you lost your mind?” Grabbing her by the forearms, he pulled her to his wet chest. “Are you trying to put yourself in labor?”

“No, you just scared me with the way you were looking at me!”

Walking her backward, he shut the door using his boot. “How am I looking at you?” he asked her silkily.

The sexual intent in his eyes sent a sensual shudder coursing through her body.

“Like you want to have—”

“Like I want to fuck you?” he finished for her, bending his head toward hers.

Larissa turned her face away, dodging his kiss. “I think we should wait until you aren’t so angry.”

“I’m not mad anymore. I’m horny.”

She studied him doubtfully. “You still look mad.” Feeling the mattress behind her knees, she pushed at his chest. Then she froze when she felt his teeth graze the side of her neck. Tensing, she trembled in his arms.

“You have a hell of a temper when you let loose.”

“You provoked me.”

“ I provoked you?” Moon gave a throaty laugh. “Hell, I was the one provoked. You’re lucky I didn’t fuck you on the trunk of the car.”

“You wouldn’t dare.” Arching her neck back to look at his face, she was stunned at the look there.

“Oh yes, I would.”

The big jerk used the opportunity of her pushing away from him to tug her clinging top off.

“You would have tried to have sex with me out in the open for anyone to see?” Wincing at the scandalized shriek in her voice, she attempted to bat his hands away from unbuttoning her jean shorts but failed miserably and found herself tumbling backward on the bed.

Kicking out at him, she thought she had won the battle of wills when Moon backed away. She raised herself on her elbows and realized he was merely using the opportunity to remove his own clothes.

“Do I look shy to you?”

Larissa had to swallow the lump in her throat. No, Moon was not shy. His bronze body gleamed under the ceiling light, highlighting every nook and crevice of his muscular body. God, his body was fit and toned to the point there wasn’t a spare inch of extra flesh. He was all hard angles and planes, leading to the turgid length of his cock under a nest of curly hair.

Unable to look at him any longer, she had to blink back tears she felt gathering in the back of her eyes.

A calloused hand turned her face back to him.

“You’re beautiful,” she said reverently.

A frown crossed his forehead. “What’s wrong with that?”

“I’m not.” Old wounds returned to haunt of her. How many times had she been made fun of as a child for not being as pretty as other girls? That she was such a geek no boy would ever want her? Were those insecurities what had led her to letting her ex-boyfriend take advantage of her for so long?

Moon planted his hands on each side of her head. “You’re sexy as fuck.”

When he licked his tongue over her lips before thrusting it inside her mouth, her mind was transported into Never Never Land, where Moon was kissing her like she was the most beautiful woman on earth. As if she was one of those women who made men turn their heads when they walked into a room. The type of woman men would die for.

Her legs came up to circle his hips, pulling him down. “I want you … so bad … even though I know I shouldn’t,” she managed to get out.

Moon sensuously slid his cock inside her warm, aching center. Arching her neck, she gave a low moan.

“Why shouldn’t you?” he murmured, licking a taut nipple.

“You’re going to break my heart, just like everyone else.”

“You could break mine just as easily,” he countered.

Her hands grabbed his hair, forcing him to end the torment on her breasts as his body thrust inside of her over and over.

“I don’t think your heart has ever been broken by a woman.” She slid her hands over the slick muscles of his back as she held on. “No woman would willingly give you up.”

She could tell from his expression that he didn’t want to admit she was right.

Sliding her hands down to his buttocks to pull him tighter against her, she gloried in the erotic feel of the muscles moving underneath the firm flesh. “I can’t blame them either. I don’t want this to ever end.”

Biting his shoulder, she fought the climax that was building inside of her as his body forced her higher and higher, leaving her no choice but to take the dive that she had tried to prolong. His groan told her he had found his release as well.

She read the male satisfaction on his face as he rolled off her to get out the bed, though it only fed the hollow emptiness that was gradually increasing each time they had sex. While she wanted the physical intimacy to last longer—forever—Moon plainly did not. Using his sexual experience, he called all the shots.

“I’m going to take a shower. You coming?”

Rolling over, she pretending to yawn. “I’ll take one when I get up.”

Bending down, he brushed a kiss over her mouth. “Enjoy your nap.”

She waited until she saw the bathroom door close after him before she buried her head in the pillow. Like the satellite he was nicknamed after, Moon preferred his solitude. He carried an air about him that even when he was with his friends, a part of him remained detached. If his friends, who had known him for years, couldn’t breach that air of isolation surrounding him, how did she think to have any hope? It was becoming more obvious that she wouldn’t. Did she love him enough to be content to take only what he was willing to give her? Like she had with her ex?

No , she answered her internal question. There was no comparison between the two. God help her, but she would take whatever Moon was willing to give her. She also loved him enough that she would let him go when he wanted to. There wouldn’t be a lasso strong enough to hold Moon when he didn’t want to be held.

Her hand went to the swollen belly. “Don’t worry; you won’t have the same problem,” she softly murmured.

Fluttering movements within her brought a tender smile to her lips.

“He’s going to love you.”
