Chapter 3 Nora

NORA

“Why are you calling me so early, we’re still sleeping,” my best friend whined into my speaker.

I balanced the phone on the small chair next to the sliding glass door while I used my fingers to test the handle.

“Rae, can you be less whiny and more supportive please? I’m doing my first B my lungs still burned from holding my breath. My eyes were still closed because I hadn’t rubbed the water out of them yet, but now I was apprehensive about opening them.

I didn’t need to see, to know it was Colson standing there, witnessing me taking a bath in his house. Naked.

Oh. My. God.

I was currently naked.

I let out a small animalistic sound and ducked back under the water, as if that could hide me. Until I realized most of the bubbles had dissipated because shower gel was not bubble bath.

Fuck.

I resurfaced right as I heard him speak again.

“Do you want to explain to me what in the hell you’re doing here?”

Finally, I pressed my fingers into my closed eyes to wipe away the water and slowly slid my gaze to the mirror, which reflected a menacing form.

Leaning against the door frame, with crossed arms and a scowl on his handsome face, Colson glared.

Keeping his eyes locked on mine, not perusing my body, he waited for me to respond.

But what would I even say? How did I come back from this?

A horrible realization snapped into focus, making me go back a year to another instance when Colson had walked in on me nearly naked by accident.

He’d misunderstood something my dad had said, or at least that’s what my father had explained afterward.

But the nitty-gritty of the humiliating situation was that Colson had innocently walked into a room, completely unaware that I had claimed it as my changing area.

When he came face-to-face with me in just my bra and panties, he acted horrified and blurted out that he had a girlfriend, which was only cemented weeks later when he saw me in the grocery store and stopped mid stroll, turned his cart around, and went in the other direction.

This man had never once led me on. I knew he was likely dating someone…which made this whole situation infinitely worse.
