Chapter 136
Courtney
I feel like I’ve had a permanent blush all day, so I thank Helios for removing the sun from the sky and making it dark enough that no one can see the color in my cheeks anymore.
“Court, you want another beer?” Simpson asks as he stands from his spot next to me.
I automatically glance at Sterling, even as I tell Simpson yes.
Sterling is on his third as well. And I have to admit, the idea of drunken sex with that man is very appealing.
“Thank you.” I accept the opened bottle from Simpson.
When I woke up this morning—at eleven, when the alarm Sterling set on my phone went off—I was alone. But his side of my small bed was still warm.
I did my best to seem cool and collected over lunch, then busied myself stripping the beds in one of the cabins and starting the laundry.
The group I didn’t have the fish fry with is still here. They live farther away and paid for an extra night so they could leave tomorrow at dawn rather than today after lunch. Which is why three men I don’t know are sitting around the fire with the Lodge employees.
They seem nice enough, but they also have a dude bro vibe that I don’t have the energy for. So I’m sticking to my conversation with Simpson and Fisher while catching as many glances of Sterling as I can.
