Dio- Chapter Fifteen

I hadn’t slept all night since being back from that shitty-ass jail. From thinking about how that small moment was going to affect my future to trying to figure out how to get over Samara, my mind was a haze of calculations. I picked up my phone, hoping she’d texted me, but there was nothing.

“Fuck!” I snapped, tossing the phone to the side of me.

Sitting up, I ran my hand down my face, thinking it would help me relax. Was it possible that I was overreacting? My room door opened, and Zeus peeked his head in.

“You good?”

“Yeah, I’m good. You ready for your appointment?”

He stepped further into my room, allowing me to get a good look at him. I burst out in laughter.

“Zeus, nigga, what do you have on?”

Honestly, Zeus looked much like our father in this moment, but with a little more sauce and finesse. He wore black slacks, a black button-up shirt, and his glasses, which he rarely wore, with his locs pulled back in a ponytail.

“I see you, Professor,” I joked.

He chuckled. “Call it what you want, little nigga. Look, I wanted you to be there with us—” he paused, “—if you want. This is not only a big deal for me and Freckles but you as well.”

My heart warmed. The shit was weird and hard to explain.

The journey we’d been on had been tough, but I would do it all over again to get to the place my brother and I were in now and to experience moments like this.

I decided to go, not only to support my brother but also to clear my mind and take a break from thinking about Mars.

It took me a minute to get dressed, but by the time I was done, Sash and Zeus were waiting in the car. Before we took off, Chevy came walking over.

“Sup, nigga?” Zeus said to him.

The expression on his face made me feel uneasy. “I know you're going to get your little one. Keep your head on the swivel. That nigga Clark pulling out all the stunts.”

“Fuck Clark!” I blurted. “We got you, Chev. You got that.”

He eyed me and nodded. Whatever was going on with him was wearing his ass down. Something was off, and whether he wanted to admit it or not, I felt like it was time for him to hang it up.

Chevy tapped the window. “We’ll be good. I’ll hit you. Congratulations, my nigga,” he said as he walked off.

I leaned forward. “That nigga’s grandaddy is slowly draining him, Zeus. We got to do something.”

Zeus backed out of the driveway. “That’s the one thing we can’t touch. Chevy’s going to get his ass, trust me, but if he needs us, we’re on go.”

Sasha turned to him. “Zeus, I understand how this works, but don’t mess this up for us. Keep the shit away from the house.”

“I got you, baby.”

I watched as Sasha stared at him curiously. I knew if it were up to her, Zeus wouldn’t be involved in any of it, but this was the man she chose, and he was not only dedicated to her but also to the crew.

It didn’t take long for us to arrive at our location. When we got there, we were greeted the moment we entered the building.

“Mr. and Mrs. Jackson, your precious girl awaits. We just need to finish up some paperwork, and I’ll take you to her.”

Zeus looked back at me, but before he could say anything, I pointed to the seats. “I’ll sit over there and wait for y’all to finish,” I told him.

While I waited, I pulled my phone out to check if Mars had texted me, and sure enough, she did.

I wasn’t expecting us to get back together, but I did expect us to remain friends.

I knew moving on from Samara wasn’t going to be easy, but I also wasn’t going to stand still and wait forever for her to choose me.

The love I harbored would be locked away.

That shit changed something in me, and from here on out, I was going to be a dog.

By the time I looked up from my phone, Zeus, Sasha, and a pretty little chocolate girl who looked like she could’ve been Zeus’s real daughter came out. I stood from the chair as I nervously watched my brother smile from ear to ear.

“Dionysus, meet your niece.”

I squatted in front of her. “What’s your name, pretty?”

She swung from side to side shyly. “Sy’ann.”

“Nice to meet you, Sy’ann. I’m Dio.”

She let out a cute giggle. “Dio,” she repeated.

Sasha, who couldn’t hold back her tears, hugged Zeus tightly. Zeus had never been the type to make things like this happen, especially on the account of a woman. He was growing and shaping himself into the perfect man. I glanced at both of them.

“How old is she?”

“Five,” she blurted out.

I heckled as I stood so we could leave. “She’s smart.” I nodded as we all headed for the door.

Sy’ann grabbed my hand. “I want to walk with you.”

I glanced at Zeus. “Ah, she fucks with the gang.” I cheesed.

Despite how I felt, I wanted to give this time to my brother because, although I was worried about Mars and Chevy, Zeus’s happiness was my first priority.
