Chapter 28
Chapter
Twenty-Eight
ADRIANNA
I drove around for a few hours before I realized it was dumb of me to waste gas when I don’t have a job, so I ended up back at home.
Now I’m sitting on my couch watching my favorite comfort show, Dynasty .
A knock at my door has me frowning.
Going to the door, I yell out, “Who is it?”
“Adrianna, open the door. It’s important.”
My heart skips a beat when I hear his voice. My hand twitches as if it’s going to do what he says, but I keep it in check.
“No.”
“You said you would help the foundation in your letter. Are you going to help, or are you abandoning it?”
That was a low blow.
I unlock the door, opening it to find a ragged-looking Elijah. He looks like he hasn’t slept in days.
I’m not sure I look much better.
“I was hoping for more time before we had this conversation,” I admit.
“What conversation do you think we are having?” he asks.
“The one where you tell me you are going to stay CEO, and I can keep being the assistant you bang.”
He looks shocked by my words.
“Adrianna, no. Fuck no.” He shakes his head. “Can I come in?”
I nod, stepping aside.
“What would make you think that?”
“I heard you at the gala. It’s okay. I get it. I lost the bet. I’ve been trying to find another job, but I figured this was for the best. I can’t keep working as your assistant when I want your job.”
“Fuck, is that why I keep getting calls about you? I’ve had to tell at least a dozen people that you aren’t up for grabs. I didn’t realize you were applying at other places.”
“What do you mean?” I ask, my heart racing.
“Adrianna, I’ve been telling them that you won’t be leaving because you have a permanent position with the foundation.”
“I don’t want to be your assistant anymore, Elijah. It will ruin what good we had,” I admit softly.
“Then don’t be my assistant. Listen, I was planning to tell you this the night of the gala, but you ran out and avoided me. I needed to clean up the mess before I handed over the foundation. You didn’t leave me a mess, and I won’t leave you one.”
My breathing is coming a little more erratic.
“What are you trying to say, Elijah?”
“Turn on the television, Adrianna.”
I bristle at his demanding tone. “This is my house, you can’t tell me what to do.”
Elijah sighs, dropping to his knees. “I swear I love that mouth of yours, but for once, I need you to listen to me. Please,” he pleads with me.
Looking down at his big blue eyes, begging me to listen to him, has me nodding. Stepping over to my couch, I turn the television on.
“What channel?” I ask.
“Any of the news channels.” He stays on his knees, his eyes on me with his back to the television.
Turning on the major news network, I gasp when I see Mr. Lind’s picture. I turn up the volume and listen.
“William Lind has been indicted on embezzlement charges. This comes after he filed a case against The Williamson Foundation for wrongful termination, citing the current CEO, Elijah Samson, as the employee stealing from the company. He also listed an assistant by the name of Adrianna Baker as a co-conspirator. He was suing the company for three million dollars. No word as to what will happen with that case if he is to be convicted. Let’s go to Jimmy in the field.
Jimmy, when are we planning to see an arrest? ” the female anchor asks.
“Any minute now. As you can see, we are outside of Boston General. We watched the police go inside. Inside sources say they believe Lind used a prior medical condition to fake a heart attack. The police have to confirm that before they can remove him from the hospital. Oh, look, here he comes.”
The reporters all rush over to the door, shouting out questions.
I look down at Elijah, who hasn’t taken his eyes off of me.
“You knew this was going on?”
He nods. “I was going to tell you after the gala, but you said you needed space. It killed me to give that to you.”
“It doesn’t matter. I lost the bet. I quit like I promised I would.”
“Which is fine. Really, if that’s what makes you happy, then I support you, but you didn’t let me fulfill my prize from the bet before you left.” He scoots closer to me, holding the back of my thighs.
“You want me to train the new CEO?” I sniffle, my heart hurting.
“No, but I get to choose the new CEO. Adrianna, how could you ever think that I wouldn’t choose you? You’re the only person for the position.”
“What?” I gasp.
“You misunderstood me at the gala. The position I was talking about wasn’t the CEO position. It’s the CFO position. Mason was asking if you were going to be okay with who I put there.”
My heart is bursting at the seams. He wants to give me the position. The one that I have wanted for so long.
Finally.
Holy shit, is the room spinning, or am I just imagining it?
“I do think I should get a little say in it if you want me to be CEO,” I joke as I rub my chest.
Elijah scoffs, shooting me a dirty look. “Well, I hope you approve because if not, then the candidate is going to be in a bit of a pickle. He already put his notice in at his current job, and they’ve filled the position.”
“Well, who is it?” I ask.
“Me.”
“Really? Does this mean I’ll be your boss?” I ask.
“Yep.”
“Good. You can get me coffee every morning,” I tease.
“Every goddamn morning for the rest of our lives.” He buries his head into my stomach, holding me to him.
“That’s a long time,” I admit, dropping to my knees to hug him.
“Not long enough.”
Then he leans forward, kissing me. I kiss him back with everything I have.
I got my dream job.
I got the man who I once hated, but now I can’t imagine my life without him.
My life is everything I ever hoped it would be.
ELIJAH
I kiss her over and over as we embrace on the floor.
“Don’t ever ghost me again. It was so childish of you, Adrianna. You’re better than that. You can talk to me,” I tell her.
“I know. I knew it was in the moment, but I needed to process my feelings before I talked to you. I really didn’t think we were going to make it,” she admits.
It breaks my heart to hear that. I didn’t do a good enough job proving to her that she is my entire world.
That ends today. I will spend every single day giving her everything.
“I’m so sorry, Elijah,” she whispers.
“Don’t. I don’t want your apologies. I want your promise that we will work on this relationship together. It won’t always be sunshine and roses, but we will weather the storms together. No more running off. We deal with everything as a team.” I cup her cheek.
“I promise.”
“Good because I love you.”
“I love you too.” Tears pour down her face.
The television is still going in the background as I help her stand before getting to my feet. Grabbing the remote, I turn it off before taking her down the hall.
“Where are we going?” she asks.
“I fucking missed you. I want to cuddle with my woman for a little while. Is that okay?”
“Yeah. It is,” she says, seeming surprised.
Once in her room, I kick off my shoes, stripping until I’m only in boxers. Then I move to her bed and climb inside.
She is frozen by the door as she looks at me.
“What’s wrong, Adrianna? Talk to me.”
She swallows hard. “I’m scared this is all a dream. It’s too perfect.”
“It’s real, baby. Get comfortable, then come to bed.”
She nods, stripping down until she is in panties. Then she pulls one of my T-shirts from the drawer, putting it on. It has me wanting to beat my chest like a caveman.
Once she settles under the blankets, I pull her head so it’s resting on my chest. We lie there for several moments in silence as I bask in the comfort of having her in my arms.
I almost lost this.
I will never allow that. I need Adrianna like I need my next breath. I felt dead without her.
Brushing back her hair, I press a kiss to the top of her head.
“I failed you. I should have been more clear about my feelings. If you are unsure about me in the future, you need to tell me. I’m pretty new at this boyfriend thing,” I say softly.
“You’re doing a great job. I’m the one who messed up.”
Turning her face up to me, I shake my head. “No. It’s not your fault. Never.”
“It’s a two-way street, Elijah. If you failed me, I failed you too. We didn’t communicate. We see the errors of our ways now. We can fix it.”
“We can. I won’t ever leave you.”
She gives me a warm smile. “You really love me then?”
“More than anything,” I admit, the fear from before absent.
This is right. She is right.
“Prove it to me.”
I frown. “I plan to. Every day for the rest of our lives.”
She shakes her head, sitting up to pull the shirt over her head. “Prove it to me right now. Make love to me.”
I cup her cheek, pressing my lips to hers as I guide her to lie on her back. Then I pull back, pulling my boxers off, then her panties.
Once we are both naked, I settle between her legs as I start to languidly kiss her.
I take my time, exploring every corner of her mouth with my tongue.
As soon as I’m satisfied I’ve gotten it all, I trail kisses along her cheek before repeating the action on the opposite cheek. Then I kiss both eyes and her nose.
I leave a trail of kisses down her chin to her neck until I reach her chest. There, I shower her lavish breasts with kisses, using my tongue to trace the outline of her nipples. I leave with a little nibble, making her gasp out.
Her hands find my hair as I trace my lips all along her stomach, making her squirm and giggle. I smile as I continue to blow warm air onto her skin, loving the way it pebbles.
Hiking her legs over my shoulder, I make my way to her pussy. The gorgeous pussy that will be the only one I have from now until the end of time.
How did I get so lucky?
Not only does she have a perfect pussy, but she’s the perfect girl. The entire package. I cannot imagine someone being so perfect for me.
Looking up at her, I see the love reflected in her eyes.
She loves me.
I’m a lucky son of a bitch.
Lowering my mouth to her pussy, I take my time tasting and teasing. I bring her to two orgasms with my mouth before I add my fingers into the mix. After a third, I kiss my way back up her body.
It’s slow and sensual. Nothing like how we normally have sex, yet somehow it seems more impactful.
It’s different.
More.
Special.
As I slide inside of her sans condom, I truly take my time savoring the way she feels against me. Her eyes roll into the back of her head as she does the same.
Then, together, we set a slow, steady motion. I thrust in as she pushes against me.
I stare into her eyes as she bores back into mine.
In this moment, there is nothing else. Only the two of us.
Together, we work each other until we each come at the same time.
The sensations are out of this world. A rush of emotions fills me as I let myself be in this moment with her.
I love her.
I can’t wait until she takes my last name because if there is one thing I’m certain of, it’s that Adrianna will always be mine.
One day the rest of the world will know it.
When I announce her with my last name.
Adrianna Samson.
