Chapter Thirty-Eight
THIRTY-EIGHT
Micah
As I brew a pot of coffee in Aidan’s kitchen, I’m smiling so wide my cheeks hurt. I can’t help it though.
This morning with Aidan has been perfect.
He is perfect.
My stomach does a somersault when I think about what we just did in the shower. God .
Not only is he incredible in bed—and in the shower—but he’s sweet and funny and kind and we can nerd out while writing fanfic erotica together—
Just then there’s a knock at his front door. I contemplate knocking on the bathroom door to let Aidan know, but I don’t want to bother him since he’s busy getting ready.
I walk over to the front door. When I open it, there’s a guy standing there who looks like a younger, blonder version of Aidan.
His brow hits his hairline. Clearly he’s surprised to see me. “Sorry—um, is Aidan around?”
“Yeah, he’s getting ready in the bathroom.”
“Oh…” He tugs a hand through his hair, which is thick and wavy like Aidan’s. “I’ll come back later, then.”
“I can let him know you stopped by.”
“That would be great. Thanks.” He frowns and shakes his head. “Sorry—I should say I’m his brother, Liam.”
“Oh!” I chuckle. “I see the resemblance.”
The corner of his mouth hooks up in a teasing half smile that looks identical to Aidan’s half smile.
“I like to think I’m the handsome one.”
I laugh. “I’ll tell him you stopped by.”
“Thanks…”
“Micah.”
His eyes widen. “Wait, you’re Micah?”
“Yeah…”
He looks down at the shirt I’m wearing—Aidan’s shirt. Liam flashes a knowing smile.
Just then I hear footsteps behind me. Liam looks past my shoulder. “She’s the hot auditor who hates you, right?”
My face instantly flushes hot. I step back and turn to see Aidan standing behind me, still clad in just a towel, looking annoyed.
“What are you doing here, Liam?”
His brother shrugs, a smug look on his face. “I was just dropping off the tools you let me borrow. Sorry—didn’t mean to interrupt.” He gestures to the toolbox on the porch next to him.
I chuckle at the smug look still on Liam’s face. He doesn’t look the least bit sorry.
Aidan moves to stand next to me. “Thanks for coming. Bye.”
He starts to close the door, but Liam stops him.
“Whoa, wait—aren’t you going to invite me in for some coffee? I’d love to get to know your lady friend.”
“No,” Aidan barks.
I step back and cover my mouth to keep from laughing so hard. This is such typical brother behavior.
“Aww, come on! Promise I’ll behave,” Liam says through a smile that’s somehow smug and charming at once.
“No, you won’t.” Aidan sighs. He tugs a hand through his still-wet curls. He turns to me. “I’m sorry my little brother is such an annoying dipshit.”
Liam clutches a hand to his chest. “Ouch,” he says through a laugh. He steps back. “I was kidding. You really think I was gonna try and third wheel my way into this?” He flashes that handsome smile. “You two have a nice day. Micah, it was nice meeting you.”
“You too.”
“If you’re not busy tomorrow night, you should come with Aidan to my hockey game.”
I turn to Aidan. “That sounds fun.”
“Really?” he deadpans.
“Hey, come on. Hockey is fun.”
Aidan rolls his eyes. I laugh and give his arm a squeeze. “I’d like to go, if that’s okay with you.”
He smiles. “Of course it’s okay.” He turns to look at his brother. “You sure you want to watch this guy play? He’s pretty awful.”
Liam frowns like he’s genuinely offended. I burst out laughing.
Liam shakes his head. “Come to the game tomorrow night and see for yourself, Micah.”
“I will.”
He waves bye and walks off. Aidan shuts the door and shakes his head.
“Sorry about him. He’s obnoxious.”
I chuckle. “I have a sister, remember? I know all about how annoying siblings can be.”
He smiles. “Right.”
I slink my arms around his neck. “I get to go to a hockey game tomorrow night with you. I’m excited.”
There’s warmth in his eyes as he smiles at me. “Me too.”
