O f course I snuck out the next morning without saying goodbye to Noah. I was sore, panicked, and scared of what it all meant. So I ran. It barely counted, though, because I only ran to my mom’s house. I got unlucky enough to choose to hide there on the morning she and Aunt Karlene were having breakfast.

Aunt Karlene took one look at me and she let out a howl of laughter that was somehow wildly offensive. I scowled at her before collapsing in the vintage metal chair across from them. My body felt like I’d run a marathon with no practice. My mind felt like it was currently trying to place first in a different marathon. My thoughts were flying through my head so fast that I couldn’t seem to catch any single one.

“Well, that’s a walk of shame if I’ve ever seen one.” Mom pointed at me with her fork. “I happen to know that Logan and Colt were out of town last night so I’m guessing you fucked Noah.”

“Mom! You can’t say that!” I shuddered. “For the love of all things holy, don’t say that.”

“What? Fuck? Jeez, Brooklyn. Don’t be a prude.” She stared at me and then pushed her plate over. “You need to eat. You look a little too thin.”

I scoffed. “I could lose ten pounds and be just fine.”

“Don’t even joke about that. The women in our family lose weight in their tits first. You lose those babies and you’ll have to start relying on your personality.”

“Did I do something to you? You’re being especially mean this morning.” I crossed my arms and then uncrossed them so I could dig into the breakfast. One bite of the pancakes, though, and I gagged. “What the hell? What is that?”

“It’s low-sugar syrup. We’re cutting back on sugar for Jimmy’s diabetes.” Mom’s glare dared me to say anything bad about her new beau.

“Here.” Aunt Karlene pulled a small bottle of syrup from a holster at her thigh and handed it to me. “It’s warm, just like it should be.”

I shook my head. “This place is nuts. No, thanks.”

“Your loss.” She poured another healthy glug onto her plate and sighed happily. “Only thing better than a good come is a good, warm syrup.”

“Why did I come here?”

“Because you wanted to talk about your night with Noah. From the look of things, he knows how to put it down in the bedroom. Did I ever tell you that I walked in on him at the changing room down at the beach a few years ago? That boy is hung like a horse. If I was a few decades younger and interested in being a step-mom, I’d ride him all over town.”

“Jesus, Mom. You really can’t say that.” I looked around, feeling guilty for giving into my nature and being just as messy and crazy as the other two women in the room. “He is wildly hung, though. It’s…a lot.”

“Did you take a picture?” Aunt Karlene grunted at my shocked look. “What? Dick pics aren’t all that rare these days and I wanted to see it. If everyone else gets to see it, I should, too.”

I leaned back in the chair and stared at the ceiling. “Even if I had a picture, I wouldn’t show you.”

“Jealous much?” She tipped her plate up and drank the syrup from it. “Cling too hard and you’ll scare that man away. So, is he the one you want or are you still trying out all the goods? Don’t think I don’t know about you and Logan in his truck at the park.”

Mom gasped. “Excuse me?”

I felt like I’d been dropped in a vat of hot wax. “You’re excused?”

“How did I not know about this? How did it happen? When did it happen?” She paused dramatically. “Kidding. Of course I know that people saw you climbing in and out of Logan’s backseat like a little skank. Good job. I just feel the need to say that if you make your aunt’s predictions come true by getting with all three of them, I’ll owe her a box of wine and with the price of inflation, that’s not as cheap as it was when I made the bet.”

“Sure isn’t. You can’t control fate, though, Daisy.” Aunt Karlene yawned. “Speaking of.”

I couldn’t be sure if she spoke just as the sound of tires screaming to a stop filled the air or just before. By the time I turned in my seat, Noah was flinging open my mom’s front door with a furious expression on his face. When he saw me sitting there, in one of his stolen t-shirts, having breakfast, his expression turned embarrassed.

I stood up, worried something was wrong. “What happened? Is everything okay?”

He laughed awkwardly, slowly backing out. “Sorry to bother y’all. I thought I saw…something… Have a good breakfast!”

I had to catch the door before he yanked it closed and practically chase him out to his truck. I grabbed his hand just as he reached for the door handle and he grabbed me and spun me around to pin me to the fender. His mouth closed over mine hard and hot. His hands were everywhere, in my hair, over my breasts, down my sides and finally stopping on my ass.

“Sorry.” He muttered as he pulled away. “I just…”

I searched his face and frowned. “You thought I left?”

His cheeks darkened. “Yeah.”

I wrapped my arms around his neck and hugged him tight. “I did run. Just here, though. I’m not leaving again, Noah. I just… I’m not good at what comes after sex.”

He pulled back with a playful smirk on his lips. “I don’t know, you were a great cuddler last night.”

I thought about the way we’d fallen asleep with his dick still inside me and blushed hot. “If it makes you feel any better, I made a mistake coming here. They’re nuts. Mom apparently saw your penis a few years ago and was very impressed. Aunt Karlene is mad that she hadn’t seen it and wants a picture.”

He blanched. “She said she didn’t see anything!”

I looked towards the house and, sure enough, there were the figures of my mom and aunt in the window. “Well, she’s a liar.”

“Fuck. Maybe I’ll leave town next. So. They know I fucked you last night?”

I snapped my face back up to his. “We fucked each other.”

Mom’s violation forgotten, he smiled teasingly at me. “Oh, you want equal credit?”

I sighed dramatically. “You guys always did try to steal credit on our group projects.”

He laughed and pulled me close to kiss me again. “Forget that I barged in there like a lunatic?”

I nodded. “Consider it forgotten.”

His phone rang and he pulled it out of his pocket with a frown. “It’s my mom.”

I cringed when I heard her voice spill out of the phone. She was yelling about him breaking into Crazy Daisy’s house to have sex with me. News traveled fast in Beaumont and it traveled like a bad game of telephone. I winced at Noah and blew him a kiss before backing away to disappear into the unexpected safety of my mom’s house.
