47. Dan
CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN
DAN
2 YEARS LATER
Ally walks through our front door right as I pour us two glasses of wine. Perfect timing. I’ve prepared her favorite meal of roast chicken and have it cooking in the oven, ready to eat in thirty minutes.
“Oh my goodness, Dan. What is all this?”
I step out of the kitchen, greeting Ally with her wine. “A romantic, candlelit dinner for my queen.”
She smiles, giving me a kiss. “What’s the occasion?”
“Do I need an occasion to spoil you?”
“Good point.” Ally places our wine on the table and her lips return to mine. Her hands slide around my shoulders, up into my hair.
Two years on and this need we have for each other is more consuming than ever. My girl needs sex and orgasms every day to be kept happy. My perfect little slut and queen that I will give the world to .
Her hands travel to my cock. I’m going to enjoy fucking her tonight if all goes to plan. There’s an envelope from Juilliard sitting on our bed, which I’m hoping has an acceptance letter waiting inside. Afterward, I’ll get down on one knee and ask her the most important question of my life. Dad and Amabella have already given their blessing.
We’ve turned a real corner with them in the last two years, especially me and my father. We’re still working on our relationship but he’s more of a positive presence in my life now. He reinstated my trust fund, which I assured him I don’t need, but he insisted, saying he’s proud of the life choices I’m making. I’m playing professional league poker now, which has no reflection on Forever Families and its reputation, and eliminates the dangers that my old gaming habits evoked. Forever Families took some time to recover from the scandal of my relationship with Ally, but it’s back on track now.
Ally’s fingers work to unbuckle my belt. I smirk, loving how much she wants me, but I can’t get sidetracked with her needy hands just yet, and pull them away from my fly.
“Before we get too carried away, how was your day?”
“Good. The audition went well.”
“Glad to hear it.”
Today was an audition for an orchestra. This is all part of the therapist’s plan, for Ally to attend as many auditions as she can. Exposure to the fear. The panic attacks haven’t completely disappeared, but Ally has a better grip on them now. She was able to get through her Juilliard audition without breaking down. And now, the outcome of that audition is only moments away.
My fingers twine with Ally’s. “Something arrived in the mail. It’s waiting on the bed for you to open.”
She gives me a curious look, then takes my hand, leading me into our bedroom. The moment Ally sees the envelope, she gasps, clapping a hand to her mouth. “It’s here. What do I do?”
I laugh, hugging her from behind and kissing her neck. “Open it.”
She grabs the envelope, tearing a slither of the seal before stopping herself and taking a deep, calming breath.
“You all right?”
She nods. “It’s okay if this is a rejection letter. I’ll keep working toward my goals and audition again next year.”
“I know, because you’re strong and determined. I’m proud of you, whatever the outcome of this letter is. You’ve made so much progress to have even auditioned in the first place.”
She kisses me. “You’re the most incredible boyfriend ever.”
“I try. Okay, enough stalling. Open the letter.”
Ally tears the envelope and her hands shake as she unfolds the letter. I’m holding my breath, watching Ally’s eyes skim across the paper as she reads. Seconds tick by. Her chest is rising up and down with rapid breaths. And then I see the exact moment her eyes widen.
“I got in,” Ally whispers. She looks up at me in disbelief, with the most beautiful smile stretching across her face. “Dan, I got in.”
As soon as the news sinks in, she starts jumping, she’s that excited. Not little jumps, either. Ally bounces all around the room, continuously shouting Yes! Yes! Yes! It’s the most magnificent sight to watch. She bends forward, bracing her head between her knees and with a sob escaping her. She’s so happy she’s crying.
I stand back, smiling and giving Ally space to have her own reaction. This moment is just like the time she received her acceptance letter to the Paris Conservatoire, only with heightened joy.
“I’m so fucking proud of you, baby.”
She wipes her eyes and stands tall, laughing to herself. “I did it. I actually did it. I can’t believe it.”
“You better believe it because you’re incredible.”
She starts jumping again and launches herself onto me, wrapping her legs around my waist. I lose balance and stumble forward, bracing myself as I fall onto the bed with Ally beneath me. I’m hit with déjà vu. The events of this moment are just like the first kiss we ever shared. She laughs. The sound is so beautiful it spreads chills through my body.
Everything about this moment is perfect.
I’m so in love with this girl that I can’t hold back from what I planned to ask later tonight. “Marry me.”
She stills beneath me, registering what I’ve said. But that gorgeous smile goes nowhere. It only grows wider.
“Maybe I shouldn’t be asking at a moment like this, but seeing you this happy… It’s so beautiful and?—”
“Yes, Dan.”
My lips twitch. “Yes?”
Ally’s laughter returns and she presses her mouth up to mine. “This is the perfect moment to ask. Yes. I’ll marry you.”
