Chapter 23 #3
I went to get the gift and gave it to her, but I was surprised that instead of happiness, her face looked shadowed. The first thought that crossed my mind was that perhaps she felt bad for not having anything to give me, because I couldn’t find any other explanation.
“Open it,” I asked.
She did as I asked and took the case from the bag, then unwrapped it quickly. When she saw the necklace, she froze, saying nothing—I don’t think she even blinked.
“I hope you like this necklace. Let me put it on you.”
I took it out of the case and showed it to her so she would turn around and I could put it on her. I noticed her eyes misted over, and at first I thought it was from emotion, but I quickly realized that what was reflected on her face wasn’t joy.
“What’s wrong? Don’t you like it? If that’s the case, we can exchange it,” I said, though I didn’t understand her reaction.
“Why did you buy me this necklace?” she asked, almost in a whisper, and she seemed terrified or disappointed—I couldn’t decipher it, and I began to worry.
“Because I thought you would like it. I never expected this reaction,” I explained, putting everything back in the bag and leaving it on the nightstand.
“Sweetheart,” what’s wrong? Why are you acting like this? I don’t understand anything,” I said, taking her face in my hands.
“Why did you buy me that necklace?” she asked again, and I understood less and less about the situation I was experiencing.
“I don’t know, I liked it and thought you would like it too. Now tell me once and for all what’s happening.”
She moved away from me and sat on the edge of the bed. I saw her pressing her head with her hands and sighing. Then she looked at me with determination.
“Do you buy that necklace for all your lovers?” she asked, leaving me completely stunned.
“What? Why are you asking me that?” I asked gravely, because I couldn’t understand how such a ridiculous idea had occurred to her.
“Just answer me, but tell me the truth,” she asked.
“Of course not. How could you think such nonsense?!” I exclaimed, indignant and surprised.
I couldn’t believe that the beautiful moment we were having had gone to hell just because Devon thought that the gift I had bought as a token of my love was something I gave to all my lovers. How could she think that?
“Today Lino came by the medical clinic and…”
Just hearing her ex’s name made my blood boil.
“Your ex-husband? You were with him?” I asked, pissed off, because imagining her with that guy bothered me tremendously.
“He showed up when I left the clinic to talk to me about you. I didn’t believe anything he said, but this gift you’re giving me makes me doubt.”
“Doubt me? I don’t know what he might have told you, but it’s clear that I don’t like that son of a bitch’s word still having value to you,” I stated, furious, because it was clear that that son of a bitch had gone to fill her head with lies against me, but what both angered and hurt me equally was that she believed him.
“It doesn’t, William, I assure you. But he followed me as I kept walking and I couldn’t help hearing what he was saying.
He told me you had many lovers, that you gave them all a necklace like that one,” she stated, pointing to the bag containing it, “and he showed it to me,” she added, leaving me stunned.
“He said it belonged to one of your lovers who was an acquaintance of his. He also said that I was just like all the others and that you had only proposed marriage to me because I was the only one who could get along with Aurora.”
“I’ll kill him! I swear that guy is going to regret crossing my path.”
I was beginning to understand that son of a bitch’s scheme. He had seen the necklace when we met at the jewelry store, and had used that information to create this whole story. And Devon had believed him.
“How could he know what necklace you were going to give me? I don’t understand it, William.
Can you explain it to me?” she asked, and at that moment I understood that in Devon’s eyes it must have seemed strange to receive the same necklace that he had shown her after inventing that whole outlandish story.
“Of course I can explain it to you. Although let me tell you that I don’t like at all that you doubted me and, above all, because of what that piece of garbage told you.”
“Put yourself in my place. As much as I try to understand it, I can’t. How is it possible that Lino knew about the necklace? I swear I can’t find an explanation.”
I couldn’t stay still. I wanted to have him in front of me and unleash all my anger on him. I wanted to beat the crap out of him. But he was going to regret having invented all that to separate me from Devon. He was going to regret it as sure as my name is William Cavaller.
I went to the bed and sat down beside her. Devon turned to look at me and I could see the sadness reflected in her beautiful gray eyes.
“I also ran into him at the jewelry store when I went to get your gift,” I began to say, and then I narrated everything that had happened.
Devon had listened to me with great attention and, when I finished, I could see that sadness had given way to fury. That made me happy, because it meant she had understood her ex’s trap. It was clear that the guy wanted to separate us.
“He took advantage of knowing about my gift and hurried to invent that whole story. And I see he even bought an identical necklace to show you and make his lie more believable. He plays hard, but I assure you that I’m going to play even harder.”
It seemed that Devon had been left speechless. She was looking at the bedroom floor and saying nothing, she seemed thoughtful and distressed. I also remained silent, because I was deeply hurt. I contemplated her, unable to believe she had thought that about me.
“I’m sorry, William. You have every right to be offended and not want anything more to do with me.
Although when Lino said all those awful things I didn’t believe a single word, when I saw the necklace I doubted you.
I’m sorry and I can understand if you want me to leave,” she said, without raising her head, without looking at me, she was dejected, and I couldn’t bear to see her like that.
“What are you talking about? Look at me, Devon,” I asked, and took her by the chin so she would turn her face. “I won’t deny that your behavior hurt me and that you believed that guy, but I also put myself in your place and can understand that it was difficult not to have doubts.”
“Thank you for understanding, but I don’t deserve your forgiveness,” she said, and her beautiful gray eyes were pools of pain.
How could she think that? It hurt me to see her in that state.
Devon was an extraordinary woman but she often undervalued herself.
It wasn’t the first time I noticed that she didn’t believe she deserved my love or the happiness she felt.
I assumed all this was due to the relationship she had with her harpy of a mother, who from what I understood, had belittled her all her life.
“Not only do you deserve my forgiveness, you deserve all my love,” I said, gently kissing her lips.
“I’m sorry, William.”
“You’re forgiven, but promise me you won’t see that guy again and much less take anything he says into account.”
“I promise,” she said, but then added, “How can you love me? You could have any woman by your side, anyone you want. Why me?” she asked, with tears streaming down her cheeks. “I…I can’t give you children, I’m an idiot who lets herself be fooled by her ex…I don’t think I’m the right woman for you.”
“Don’t talk like that!” I said, standing up and kneeling in front of her.
I couldn’t bear to hear her despise herself that way.
“You are the most wonderful woman I’ve ever met, you’re beautiful, intelligent, seductive, incredibly kind and sweet.
I’m the one who can’t believe that you love me, that you chose me after I behaved like an idiot when we met.
I consider myself the luckiest man to have you with me.
I never want to hear you despising yourself like that again. ”
Devon was crying silently, tears running down her cheeks and, although I wiped them away with the tips of my fingers, I didn’t know what to do to erase all her pain, to erase that past that had affected her so much.
“I love you, Devon. You brightened my life and my daughter’s. You’re the angel we needed to be happy. Everything about you causes a wave of emotions that lead to madness because I’m crazy about you. Never leave me because I wouldn’t know how to go on.”
She looked at me and threw herself at me, making me stagger and fall to the floor. I ended up with my back against the floor and Devon on top of me. We hugged each other tightly, pouring all the love we felt into that embrace.
“I love you, William. Good Lord, I love you so, so, so much… Without you I wouldn’t know how to go on either.
You and Aurora are my whole life,” she affirmed, making my soul return to my body.
“I fell in love with you from the very moment I met you,” she said, and lowered her lips to mine and kissed me.
Her lips covered my entire face with kisses while her tears moistened it.
“My sweet doctor, can we continue with what we had planned?” I asked, taking her face in my hands.
“That’s what we’re doing,” she replied, with a shy smile.
“That’s true, but my dream was to see you naked wearing only the necklace.”
“Thank you for the gift, it’s beautiful, it truly is. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a spectacular piece of jewelry or been given something so beautiful. Thank you so much.”
“It doesn’t even come close to your beauty.”
Devon smiled, stood up and stretched out her hand for me to take it. When I did, she pulled me to my feet.
“Let’s fulfill your dream, Mr. Cavaller.”
How it excited me to hear her call me that with that seductive voice.
“First things first. We need to get rid of all those clothes,” I said, approaching her and beginning to undress her.
In a few minutes I had her naked in front of me. She was perfect. I couldn’t stop admiring her. All of her was sensual, exciting, so beautiful she seemed unreal. Everything around us disappeared, it was just her.
“Are you going to keep staring at me or are you going to put the necklace on me?” she asked, and moistened her lips, making the blood in my body boil.
Without saying anything, I turned and went for the jewel.
When I returned to her, she turned giving me her back and I almost fell to my knees.
My God! Her body was pure perfection, her skin was of an impeccable creaminess that called to be caressed, and I remembered very well what it felt like to caress that skin.
Her hair cascaded down her back and her backside was…
perfect, there’s no other word to describe it.
Her long, toned legs made me want to have them wrapped around my waist. God!
That body of a thousand hells was made for sin.
My erection grew and hardened like never before.
I approached and with great delicacy placed the necklace on her, gently caressing her neck.
Before turning back around, Devon looked at me over her shoulder and the discharge of desire I felt was so great that I almost had to double over at the waist. Without saying anything, she turned completely and looked at me with desire.
She was every man’s dream, she was my dream come true.
In a second I stripped off all my clothes and approached to embrace her and kiss her ardently.
“You’ve fulfilled my dream, you are everything I desire in life,” I affirmed, kissing her again.
I kissed the delicate skin of her neck, inhaling her sweet scent. Devon tilted her head to give me more space and her soft moan made my heart pound in my chest. I had to make an effort to control my breathing and my excitement because with Devon it was always this intense.
We fell onto the bed and I enclosed her in my arms while kissing her with alarming desperation. I moved down her body with my lips, enjoying the taste of her soft skin.
“William, my love…” My name came out as a sigh and I swear at that moment I almost came.
“I desire you more than I can possibly explain.”
I continued moving down with my mouth while my hands explored her entire body. I reached her intimate place, that place that belonged to me by right. I buried my mouth in her, closing my eyes to savor that pleasure and engrave it in my memory.
“You are so delicious,” I whispered.
“Oh my God!”
The orgasm overtook her and she released herself screaming my name.
I had to possess her immediately because I had no self-control left.
I positioned myself over her as she wrapped her legs around me and I sank into her slowly.
We both moaned when I was deeply buried inside.
For a few seconds I remained still, feeling how perfectly we fit together.
Gradually I withdrew only to thrust back into her.
I threw my head back enjoying that unique pleasurable sensation.
I continued moving, noticing how the pleasure increased frenetically creating electricity throughout my body.
Our movements were precisely coordinated, seeking release, and we found it with an orgasm that shot through every cell of our bodies like lightning.
We both cried out and I collapsed on top of her as we tried to catch our breath.
It had been fantastic, it had been indescribable, it had been with Devon and that said it all.
Devon slept curled up against me, but I couldn’t fall asleep.
I couldn’t stop thinking about the issue with her ex.
I tossed and turned trying not to wake her, but I knew that if I kept moving I would end up doing so, so with great delicacy I moved away from her and left the bed.
Nothing good could come from trying to sleep with a restless mind.
I left the bedroom and went to my desk. It was the middle of the night, but I decided to send a message to my investigator, sure that he would read it when he woke up and get on it.
Me:
Find out everything you can about
Lino Coller and send it to me as soon
as you have it. Thanks.
Coller wanted to separate me from Devon and I was going to be prepared. If he dared approach her again, he would regret it. That son of a bitch had dared to slander me and go after my woman, and I wasn’t going to let him get away with it.
