Chapter 18

CHAPTER 18

I don’t wake up to a blaring alarm or the sun stabbing me in the eye. I wake up to Violet’s warm, wet mouth sucking on the crown of my engorged shaft. She swirls her tongue, giving me a long lick, then smiles up at me.

“Morning, honey,” she grins, wrapping her hand around the base of my erection to give it a few nice strokes. “I wanted to thank you for last night. I hope this will do.” She sucks me all the way into her mouth, and now I know what heaven is like.

“Babe…” I fist my hands in the sheets to keep from grabbing onto her head. “That feels so good.”

She drags her tongue up and down like she’s savoring a lollipop. A heat starts to coil in my belly as I throb against her tongue.

“I’m close, baby. So close…” I groan.

Violet curls her hands around my shaft, sucking me deeper while squeezing the base. Losing my mind to the hottest sensation of my life, my hips fly up, and I erupt in uncontrollable pulses.

She gives my crown one last lick and crawls up my chest, grinning like a Cheshire cat. “Good morning, Dr. McDreamy.”

“Dr. McDreamy?” I stroke her cheek.

“That’s what we call you at the office.” She licks her lips.

“You talk about me at the office?” I grin.

Violet gives me a quick kiss. “Don’t let it go to your head, mister. Now, how about we shower, and then you can cook me breakfast.”

“Oh, so I’m doing all the cooking in this relationship, huh?”

“Are you saying I didn’t earn it?” she giggles, and the way her eyes sparkle makes my chest squeeze.

“Baby, if me cooking makes you look at me that way…I will cook for you every day of your life.” I slide out of the bed, scooping her into my arms. “Do you do dishes?”

She tosses her head back, laughing, and now I know exactly what’s missing in my life.

Her.

A fter breakfast, Violet played the recording for me. I reach for my phone and call Mike Sanders, one of the most reliable cops I’ve met working in the ER. He answers on the second ring.

“Faletti,” Mike’s gruff voice makes me smile. “You haven’t been arrested, have you?”

“Not yet,” I reply, sitting on the edge of the sofa cushion. “But I need your advice on something serious. I’ve got you on speakerphone. My girl, Violet, is with me.”

There’s a pause before Mike says, “Go on.”

I lay out the story as simply as I can—the threats, Harris’s behavior, and Violet’s recording. I’m careful to keep my anger in check, though it boils under the surface just talking about that bastard. When I’m done, Mike’s quiet for a moment, processing.

“Violet recorded the threats?” he asks finally.

“Yeah. She’s got it all on tape.”

“Good. That recording is solid gold, Dex,” Mike says. “If he made explicit threats or propositions like you’re telling me, it’s not only admissible, but it’s evidence of harassment, intimidation, and more. She’s done everything right. Now you just need to be smart about how you use it.”

“Legally speaking… how do we make this stick?”

“Public pressure is your friend here,” Mike explains. “If you take that recording to her company’s leadership at the right moment—somewhere public where he can’t twist the narrative—you’ll have him cornered. He won’t be able to claim ‘misunderstandings’ or turn it on her. Once it’s out, it’s out.”

“Good.” I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding. “Thanks, Mike.”

“Hey, keep me posted. And Dex?”

“Yeah?”

“Make sure Violet knows she’s got a hell of a man in her corner.”

I hang up and glance at Violet. “Do you have any thoughts about somewhere public to out Harris?”

“There’s a staff meeting Monday morning at Sterling and Chase. It’s mandatory that everyone attends, so the room will be packed with attorneys, paralegals, legal secretaries, and most importantly, all the partners.”

“Then we do it Monday.” I declare.

We sit side by side on the couch, the recorder resting between us like a loaded gun.

“If you’ve changed your mind and don’t want to do this, I will understand,” I say softly, breaking the quiet.

Violet looks up at me, her blue eyes shining in the dim light. “I have to do this. It’s not just about me anymore. It’s about you and it’s about anyone Harris could hurt if someone doesn’t stop him. And I… I’m done being scared.”

Pride swells in my chest, and I lean forward, brushing a kiss to her forehead. “No matter what happens, I’ve got you.”

She exhales a shaky breath, leaning into me. “Thank you for loving me, Dex.”

“Always, babe.” I pull her closer, wrapping my arm around her and holding her tight. “Now, let’s take this bastard down.”
