Chapter 10 I Do

I was stunned.

“It works like that?”

The System sounded smug. “I deserve some credit.”

“I noticed early on that you didn’t actually want to leave Song Jin Nian. Every escape attempt lacked enthusiasm. And his obsession with you was off the charts. I predicted this outcome, so I applied to swap the female lead.”

“What about the original female lead?”

“She currently has no interest in romance. She’s ambitious and driven. Most likely, she’ll bind with a strong-independent-woman system and start a new journey.”

I thought of the girl from the memories—soft on the outside, steel in her eyes.

I understood.

The System continued, “Now, Host, please embrace your new life.”

“Thank you, System.”

The weather was beautiful that day.

Song Jin Nian didn’t see me on the monitor.

Less than ten minutes later, he was home.

Face cold, eyes panicked—until he found me in the kitchen baking cookies.

He froze.

I pulled out a fresh batch of cookies. “You’re home early?”

He stared. “I thought you were leaving me again.”

“I’ve been in a good mood lately. Taking a few days off.”

I stuck out my tongue playfully and grabbed his hand. “Try my baking.”

He bit without hesitation, then his expression shifted.

“Very good. Don’t make them again.”

I huffed and lightly punched his chest. Was it that bad?

Song Jin Nian pulled me into his arms, grip tight and breathing uneven.

He started to speak, then stopped.

He looked down.

On my left ring finger was a new ring.

I tilted my head up, smiling.

“Ex-husband, will you keep being my Husband?”

His eyes instantly reddened.

He kissed the back of my hand.

Just like that night long ago, when he was at his loneliest and most afraid of the dark.

When I’d asked if he wanted to sleep together.

“I do.”
