Chapter 72
"What are you doing here?" The look of hostility in Harper's eyes was a bit too much for William to bear, so he stopped smiling and removed his hands from his pockets. He made an attempt to walk closer to them but Harper raised her palm to stop him. "Don't you dare take one more step. I asked you a question, what are you doing here?" "Well, I heard my son-in-law was injured so I came to see how he's doing" "Son-in-law?" "Who are you calling your son-in-law?" "Why it's Harrison of course!"
A lot of things had been going on with the company lately, several important shareholders in his company were leaving one by one and he had demanded to know who was behind it. One of his assistants told him that it was all Harrison's handiwork, and he was stunned. Harrison was just a family bodyguard, where did he get the ability to do that? That's when he learned of Harrison's true identity. He wasn't a mere bodyguard, he was the CEO of Whitney Corp! William felt like he had hit the jackpot. His company was in trouble and Harrison who was his daughter's husband wouldn't just sit back and watch right?
"Says the man who disowned me months ago. I'm not your daughter anymore, so how could Harrison be your son-in-law?" "Nonsense! You still have my blood flowing in your veins don't you?" "It's really unfortunate, I can't just take out the blood that belongs to you from my veins!" "Harper!" "Ok, ok that's enough. Would you two please stop fighting?" Harper looked at Harrison and was about to say something when he put a finger to her lips and shook his head to stop her. "Don't worry, I'll handle this myself" William heard Harrison's words and licked his lips while rubbing his palms together, looking like the sly fox that he was. He'd always known that Harrison was a smart man, he wouldn't dare to defy him. He was still his father-in-law!
"If you want to mooch off of her after all you've done Mr Carson, you must be an idiot" "What did you just say?!" "I believe you heard me properly William. Now please get out before I let my men take you out. Trust me, you're not going to like it" "Do you dare do that to me? I'm going to spread words and ruin your reputation!" A man who refused to help his father-in-law, surely he would receive hide criticism from the public no matter who he is right? He'd see if Harrison was going to repeat the same words then! "Clyde, could you find someone to 'escort' this man out of here?" Clyde who was outside the door naturally heard what Harrison said and he sent some bodyguards inside. The burly men were about to 'escort' William out of the ward when a figure came in and delivered a crisp slap to his face "Mom?"
Harper looked at her mom in shock. When did she get here? "Bethany, did you just slap me?!" "So what if I did? I heard every single word just now. Do you really think you'd try to mooch off my daughter and son-in-law, and I'd just sit back and watch you? Well, you're wrong!" "I am the father of your daughter! Not anymore you aren't! My daughter doesn't need a father like you. She has a better family to take care of her!" Harrison glanced at his bodyguards and they acted immediately, lifting William off the floor like he were a five year old before throwing him out of the hospital where several passersby couldn't help but laugh at him when they saw what had happened.
"Mom, what are you doing here?" "I came to see how my daughter and son-in-law are doing" "S- son-in-law?" "That's right, I accept you as my son-in-law Harrison but you'd better watch out. One wrong step and I'm taking my daughter back, you hear me?" "Yes ma'am!" "Oh please, call me mom instead" Harrison looked at Bethany in shock and she smiled at him. He smiled back as he called out "Mom!" "That's good, really good!"
More time passed by and soon it was Christmas. Harper sat on the bed in her room with confusion as she looked at her friends who kept going through her wardrobe "What exactly am I getting dressed for?" "It's a girls' day out, didn't you hear when we said it the first time?" "I've heard of a girl's night out but a girls' day out? What's that?" "It's simple. Instead of us three just hanging out at night, we hang out for the day instead" "But why during the day?" "We can't pull you to come hang out with us at night, what if..." Harper raised her brows at the way Tina drawed out the last word "What if what?" "What if you and Harrison have something important to do?" Harper looked at Lily who wiggled her brows suggestively and put a hand to her forehead before she sighed. " Remind me why the two of you know each other?" "Because you’re an angel sent from the heavens above," Lily said, fluttering her lashes. "Besides, it was the best decision ever—bringing us three together"
"Yeah, yeah, whatever," Harper muttered with a smile. Then her gaze fell on the sleek, glittery gown they laid out. "But aren’t these dresses a little too fancy for a casual day out?"
“Harper Avery Carson!" Tina said sternly, hands on her hips. "I'll have you know that no dress is too fancy for a girls’ day out. You hear me?"
Harper chuckled. "Yes, ma’am"
"Good. You’ve got ten minutes to be out of that pajama top and into this dress. Move it, soldier!"
"Okay, okay! I’m coming," she grumbled with a grin, grabbing the dress and disappearing into the bathroom.
The three girls came back home when it was evening. Harper looked up at her house and was stunned. What was all this?
