Epilogue
~A YEAR LATER~
"Harper, why aren’t you pregnant yet?"
The sudden question made Harper choke on her drink mid-sip. Harrison nearly dropped his coffee as he leapt to her side, gently patting her back. "Are you okay?" he asked, concerned.
"I'm fine" she wheezed out, glaring at the unexpected culprit.
"Mom! Please don’t ask that kind of question" Harrison groaned.
"She's right" Robert chimed in, arms crossed. "Why isn’t Harper pregnant yet?"
It was a frosty winter morning, and both Harper's and Harrison's families had come over for a holiday breakfast. Cozy sweaters, laughter, and the smell of pancakes filled the air—along with the smell of nosiness, apparently.
"Tina and Kevin got married months after you two and Tina’s already expecting" Diane said, hands on hips. "We want great-grandkids before we need walking sticks!"
Tina and Kevin had become inseparable not long after Harper and Harrison tied the knot. Nobody really knew how they met—Kevin just smirked every time someone asked—but everyone approved. As for Ruby, she was now engaged to the charming heir of a wine empire, and it wasn’t about the money. That girl was glowing with love.
Bethany, Harper's mom, suddenly narrowed her eyes and asked the boldest question of them all: "Tell me something—have you two never… slept with each other?"
"Mom!" Harper and Harrison chorused in horrified unison. That was a crazy question to ask a married couple—of course they had. Wedding night alone could've made national headlines. Harrison practically had to peel himself off Harper by force just to let her rest that night. And morning. And mid-morning. The man was relentless.
Harper sighed and set her mug down. "Well, I was hoping to keep this a surprise for Christmas, but I guess now’s the time"
She looked around the room at the curious, expectant eyes.
"I’m pregnant"
A dramatic pause. Then—
"What?!" several people gasped in perfect harmony.
"Really?" Diane asked, tears forming instantly.
"Really, truly, absolutely. The results came this morning"
Robert slapped his knee and stood up proudly. "I knew it! I felt it in my bones this morning!"
"Dad" Bethany rolled her eyes, "you thought your backache was a sign of rain!"
Diane swatted his arm playfully. "Oh hush, let him have his moment"
Amid the chaotic celebration, Harrison gently pulled Harper aside. He wrapped his arms around her from behind and rested his hands protectively over her stomach.
"Looks like we finally get to start our next chapter" he whispered. "The best one yet" she smiled, leaning into him.
He kissed her temple softly. "Thank you for coming into my life, for making me a better man, and for giving me the family I never dreamed I could have. I love you, Harper"
"I love you too, Harrison" she whispered back, voice trembling with happy tears.
The couple smiled at each other, the kind of smile that held a thousand unspoken promises. Their eyes sparkled with the magic of everything they'd been through—past scars, stubborn hearts, late-night makeups, and one unforgettable wedding night that started it all.
They held each other tighter, standing in a room filled with joy, family, and laughter, stepping into a future that already felt like a dream.
I wasn’t really thinking of writing an epilogue but, here it is! Hope you guys like it.
And while there were no comments (I see you silent readers), your love was still very much appreciated. You guys were like mysterious ghosts haunting the read count—but in the best way.
Thanks for reading!
