Chapter 32
-Kace-
G etting rid of Cody became quite the challenge. I was unsure why he had shown up, but Cody was like my brother. Coming and going was what he did.
He never let me know when he would show up or not. Sometimes he almost lived here. And even though, I enjoyed the fact that he and Anna seemed to get along, those sudden visits couldn’t continue.
“What?” Cody asked when he noticed I was still glaring at him.
“As I said, do you not have somewhere to be?” I inquired.
“And as I said, I'm all yours today.”
“You’re bored,” I retorted.
“I’m always bored,” he admitted.
“Then find someone to entertain you,” I told him.
“I have! You two!” he exclaimed.
“I think that’s a very bad plan.”
“Why?”
“Because I planned on giving my wife all my attention today,” I informed him.
Cody acted like that hurt him, placing his hand over his heart. “After everything I have done for you, after I have been there for you after your accident, you’re just going to throw me out?”
“Yes, and I'm going to teach you how to use the doorbell too, and that key you have, I need that back,” I instructed.
“What? Why?”
“Because someone else lives here now too!” I told him.
Cody didn’t see the problem and let his eyes shift between us before a smug smile spread on his lips and he winked at us.
“Ah, I see, of course,” he said, and he kept winking.
“Cody!” I glanced at Anna, who could barely face him when she heard what he was implying. While I loved making my wife blush, that was just for me, yet Cody found himself hilarious, and I held out my hand.
“Key,” I told him.
“What? You mean it?” he inquired, sounding truly shocked.
“Yes!”
“But what if your house one day is on fire? Or what if you were choking and needed me to come save you?”
“I have a wife now,” I reminded him.
“But could she carry you out of a burning building? You know I would, bridal style and everything. I would be your hero,” he joked.
“I'm not going to get trapped in a burning building, needing Superman to come save me.”
“Oh, so I'm Superman now?” he teased.
“Cody!” I exclaimed.
“What if I promise to use the doorbell from now on?” he asked, desperately wanting to have free access to my house. But I wasn’t sure I trusted him. I raised my eyebrow as he made puppy eyes, begging me not to take the key from him.
“If you break that promise just once, then I want the key,” I stated.
“Yes, yes, no interrupting you as you fuck your wife on the couch,” he assured me.
Anna stared at Cody, her eyes full of shock, but he just smiled at her. I shook my head and sighed. This was part of the reason why I didn’t want him to have a key anymore—I didn’t want him to walk in on Anna and me doing something. I knew how shy my wife could be, and I was still working on making her feel comfortable around me.
I knew that if Cody walked in while I was taking her on the couch or on this very table, she might refuse sex for the rest of our lives, fearing Cody would return and witness her in such a vulnerable situation.
“You’re unbelievable,” I told him.
“I know,” he chuckled.
I reached out and took Anna’s hand, making her focus on me. I gave her a little comforting smile, and it seemed to help her. I kissed her hand before we all continued our breakfast.
-Annabella-
Now that Cody was here to entertain me, Kace went to work while we stayed outside in the sun, relaxing after a grand breakfast. I was leaning my head back, feeling the sun’s rays on my skin, but I soon noticed Cody’s eyes on me. I turned my head, seeing him smile at me.
“What?” I asked.
“You seemed to have tamed the great Kace. That was fast. You have only been married for a few weeks,” he teased.
“What do you mean ‘tamed’?” I questioned.
“Well, he didn’t used to be so soft,” he explained.
“Soft?” I echoed.
“Compared to how he used to be, yes, he has grown soft.”
“Kace?”
“Yes.”
Cody chuckled, and I smiled even wider, not seeing Kace as very soft.
“So how did the dinner go?” Cody asked, changing the subject.
“Oh great. Did Kace not tell you about it?” I inquired, a clear sarcastic tone in my voice.
“He mentioned they would come over,” he replied.
“Horrible, but as expected.”
“They are that bad?” he asked.
“Have you met my parents?” I inquired.
“I have,” he said. “But they never treated me badly.”
“That’s because they want to be on your good side. They don’t like me. I’m the weak link.”
“You don’t seem that weak to me,” he admitted.
“No?” I inquired.
“You tamed Kace, as I said. No weak woman could have done that.”
I chuckled a little, sipping some water. “I don’t know if I will call it tamed.”
“I would,” he said. “I haven’t seen him like that before, and I stayed with him through his training and the accident.”
“I heard a little about how most people abandoned him.”
He nodded. “Yes, but I was there. I saw him struggling and recovering. I stayed even when he turned into an angry and grumpy mess.”
“You’re very close?” I asked.
“We are like brothers,” he admitted.
“That’s great. I thought I had friends too, but it seems like… that wasn’t the case,” I whispered.
“None of those rumors are true?”
“That I'm a crazy stalker, or that I was pining after my sister’s fiancé?”
“All of it?” he asked.
I turned to him, shaking my head a little. “I was in love with Zac, but it’s not like I went everywhere he did or spied on him while he was on a date with my sister. We were best friends.”
“You and Zac were best friends?” he inquired.
“Since we were kids, or so I thought, but really, I was just someone to make fun of and for him to use. I was an idiot.”
“You’re not an idiot,” he assured me.
“It felt that way… Still feels that way, and now we are going to their engagement party.”
“Why?” he asked, frowning.
“Because Kace agreed, and it was not like we could say no,” I pointed out.
“You just say no,” he chuckled.
“If it was just that easy with my family.”
“They really are assholes, huh?”
“Sometimes we just get born into the wrong one,” I groaned.
“Well, now you have a better one. Kace and I welcome you,” he said, throwing open his arms and making me laugh.
“I thought Kace and I said this wasn’t a couple with a third joining,” I told him.
“Why not? I'm a delight,” he teased.
“I like you, but I don’t think I want to marry you.”
“Ouch!” he jested.
“I have a husband. You can go and find your own wife,” I told him.
“But I like you more,” he teased.
“I don’t think Kace is the sharing type.”
“Not really,” Cody laughed.
It felt good to hear that. I didn’t want to share Kace.
