Chapter 28
TWENTY-EIGHT
An excerpt from Orla Monroe’s interview with Estelle Lavigne
OM:
I, for one, am thrilled to have had this chance to learn more about the Americana scene’s newest darling. So what’s next for this storyteller? What’s on the horizon, Estelle?
EL:
Life as a musician doesn’t change with one success.
My goal remains as it’s always been—to write and perform music that people want to listen to.
To grow my fan base. To make a comfortable living on my own terms. The success of “My Only Child” has opened doors that I’m excited about, and we’re currently working on touring dates for the coming year.
If you’re anywhere in the southeastern United States, chances are I’ll be visiting a town near you.
Beyond that, my number one focus will continue to be my daughter.
OM:
Is there a long-term plan? Hopes and dreams? Perhaps a special someone? Handsome men must be swarming around you.
EL:
Oh no. My life is full as it is, so I’m not looking. Frankie and I are quite all right on our own.
As for dreams, I hear the Mayor of Nashville sometimes bestows keys to the city to esteemed individuals.
Wouldn’t that be something? Perhaps as a lifetime achievement award.
No, but in all seriousness, my goal is to continue doing what I do best—weaving together tales and music—until the day I die.
There is always another melody, another turn of phrase, and another listener to capture.
Perhaps new countries to visit. So, barring anything unexpected happening, you’ll keep finding me and my guitar on a stage somewhere living the dream.
OM:
Sounds wonderful. I certainly am eager to see where your journey takes you. It’s bound to be far with the strength and determination you’ve shown. Hopefully, I’ll run into you at one of the upcoming awards shows this year too.
EL:
Your lips to God’s ears, Orla. It’s been wonderful talking with you.
