Sneak Peek of Reaper

REAPER

Four states down, three to go.The annual cross-country ride is usually my favorite part of being Road Captain.Just me, my bike, and endless miles of asphalt. No complications.

At least until the Nevada chapter of the Devil's Wings rolls in to join our caravan.

I spot her the moment she pulls up--Sandy Mitchell, now wearing treasurer patches on her cut.Five years haven't changed much.Same sleek black hair whipping in the wind.Same confident tilt to her chin.Same ability to make my chest tight just by existing.

"Well, well." Her smile holds an edge as she kills her engine."If it isn't the boy who never grew up."

That stings, even now. It was the last thing she said before walking out of mylife.I need a man, Reaper. Not someone who treats life like it's all agame.

"Sandy." I keep my voice neutral, ignoring Tank's sharplook. He probably remembers picking up the pieces after sheleft."Didn't expect to see youhere."

"Life's full of surprises." She swings off her bike with the same fluid grace that used to captivateme.Still does, if I'm honest. "I go by Rebel now.Earned my new name same time as mypatches."

Of course, she did. Sandy never did anythinghalfway. It was one of the things I loved abouther. One of the things that made losing her hurt somuch.

"Three more states," Tank mutters behind me. "Just avoid her."

But I know better. Sandy never shows up anywhere byaccident. And from the calculating look in her eyes as she surveys our group, she's gotplans.

The question is, am I finally man enough to handlethem?
