Chapter 6

Fergus

The next morning, Gillam woke up earlier than me. When I opened my eyes, he stood in the balcony doorway, gazing into the distance. His naked form glowed in the sunlight, his golden hair loose around his shoulders, shimmering. He looked like a fae, a true treasure, and I gazed at him in awe.

My mate, and he’s in heat. The small cushion of his underbelly, waiting to be bred, was the most erotic thing I’d ever seen.

Except Gillam’s bright blue eyes looked worried when he turned to me.

“There is no door besides this one,” he said. “And no stairs.”

I stretched out my hand, and after a breath of hesitation, he came to me and took it. I tugged him back onto the bed, cradling him to my chest, and he sighed into my skin.

“I have so many questions. How did you find me? We are at the edge of a mountain, and the cliffs are steep. How did you bring me here? Will you answer me soon?”

“I will. I promise.”

“I feel strange.”

“How?”

“My belly… it must be the heat.” He nibbled on his lower lip. “My chest is bloated, too.”

I cupped one supple mound and kneaded softly. “You’re beautiful.”

Soon, clear nectar would drip from his nipples.

All dragon mates gave their alphas lover’s milk during bonding.

I couldn’t wait to taste it. His heat would get more intense during the next few days, and I’d breed him.

Was our bond strong enough already for him to accept the truth of who I was and who he’d become?

“I promise to tell you and show you everything. I won’t keep any secrets from you in the future. Wait for two more days, please.”

He blinked up at me, confused. Cupping his cheek, I held his gaze, letting him see my soul.

His lips parted, and a blush infused his cheeks. “I know you love me.”

Did he truly? “I’ll earn your trust, Gillam.”

“I do trust you. You would never lie to me. You won’t hurt me. I feel it in my heart.”

His guilelessness made me smile. “I brought you here to hide you. We couldn’t travel far because you were barely alive when I found you, and close to your heat. They keep looking for you. Your father is determined, and so are his knights.”

Fear flashed across his lovely features. “What if they find us?”

“That’s why we’re here, in this tower. So I can protect you as best I can while you’re most vulnerable.”

I could see more questions brewing in his mind, but he pursed his lips and nodded. “You’ll tell me everything when the time is right,” he said.

“I will.”

“Can I ask something else?”

“Of course.”

His blush deepened, and I knew what worried him before he voiced his question.

He looked down and grazed his bottom lip with his teeth. “It feels pleasant, but strange. The constant need. The sensation in my chest.”

“The beginning of your heat has been mild. The need will get more powerful.”

“And you will… take care of me?”

“I’ll be with you, fuck you as much as you crave. And when you need it, I’ll breed you.”

He gasped. “I can’t become with child. It’s my first heat. It’s impossible.”

“Not for our kind.”

Quiet, he examined my face with his bright eyes. Then a corner of his lips lifted, new warmth glowing in his gaze. “In my dreams last night, I had a round stomach, and you made love to me, stroking it. I told myself it was just a dream.”

“You’re not human, my darling. Not entirely. The bond you feel tying you to me—humans don’t feel like that. They don’t love like that. What’s coursing through your veins now…” I took a breath, filling my chest with his scent, searching for the right words.

“It’s magic,” he finished for me, his gaze locked with mine. “I can see your soul through your eyes. And I know in my heart you’re my fate.” A determined frown creased his smooth forehead. “I want your child in my belly. In my dream, it made me happy.”

My overgrown heart pounding, I kissed my mate, letting the love overwhelm me.
