Chapter 37

“Carsso?” a plaintive voice called.

“That’s Galen…he’s probably had another nightmare,” Carson said to Mystia, before raising his voice so he could be heard. “Hey, bud, I’ll be right there.”

“Go to him,” Mystia urged, “I’ll see you in the morning.”

“Good night, Mystia…and thanks,” Carson said. Then, books under his arm he headed up the stairs finding Galen sitting on the top step rubbing his eyes. “Hey,” he said, putting down the books before sitting next to Galen, “What’s up?”

“My head hurts.”

“Show me where,” Carson said, softly.

Touching the bandage on his forehead, Galen said, “Here.”

“C’mon, I got just the thing that’ll fix it,” Carson said, standing and holding out his hand to Galen as he flipped on the hall light switch.

“Your wolf can fix it?” asked Galen, clutching Carson’s hand tightly.

“Not this time, bud,” Carson said, “but I have some magic cream that’ll help.”

“Magic cream?” asked Galen, his tears forgotten. “Will it really make the hurt go away?”

“Yes, it will,” Carson said, leading Galen into the bathroom and lifting him up onto the counter. “I’m going to take off this bandage…it might hurt a little bit…can you be brave, Captain Galen?”

“Uh-uh, I’m the braverest ever…Remee said so. ”

“Good,” Carson said, getting several items out of a first aid kit while making a mental note to ask Colton for some of his healing salves.

Once everything was ready, Carson washed his hands and began to lift the edge of the bandage on Galen’s forehead, going slowly to prevent pain.

When it was finally off, he examined the wound for any signs of infection, and finding none, he picked up a tube of antibiotic plus pain relief ointment. “You okay?”

“Uh-uh,” Galen said, in a tiny voice.

“Does it still hurt?”

“Uh-huh.”

“Okay…I’m going to put on the magic cream now.” Carson squeezed the ointment out over the wound before putting another bandage on it. “There, can you feel it begin to work?” he asked, putting the first aid kit away.

Galen’s eyes became round. “I do, Carsso. It ain’t hurtin’ anymore.”

“Good magic, right?”

“Uh-huh. I like this magic.”

Lifting Galen down, Carson said, “Yup, the best kind of magic. Now, back to bed.” Ushering the boy out into the hallway, he followed Galen into his bedroom, helping him back into bed. “Good night, bud…love you,” he said, before kissing Galen’s forehead.

“Nite, Carsso,” Galen murmured, closing his eyes.

Leaving Galen’s bedroom door open a crack, Carson reclaimed the books before entering his and Remy’s bedroom.

The light from the hallway illuminated Remy sprawled out, still dressed.

Shaking his head at the sight, he set the books down on the chair next to the foot of the bed before undressing Remy and pulling the covers over him.

Yawning, he quickly shucked his clothes, joining him.

Nestling against his mate, Carson inhaled deeply, allowing his mate’s delicious scent to lure him to dreamland.

Carefully extricating himself from the tangle of Fionn’s limbs, Hunter slid out of bed, grabbing his phone before padding softly out of their bedroom.

Heading downstairs, he grinned, hoping his mate wouldn’t suffer any serious consequences tomorrow from getting drunk at the wine tasting Remy arranged.

Sitting down on the overstuffed sofa, Hunter called Mac, chuckling at the memory of how adorably tipsy Fionn had become, making flirtatious comments along with suggestive moves.

It took everything he could think of to keep his mate from dropping his pants in an effort to get Hunter to fuck him right there, in front of Remy and Carson.

Hunter finally threw Fionn over his shoulder and headed back to their cottage while giving his mate’s ass several swats to keep him still.

As soon as they were inside, his mate wiggled and squirmed, until Hunter lowered him down.

Within a flash, his mate was naked, holding up a cock ring, begging for permission to put it on Hunter.

Just thinking about it now caused Hunter’s cock to harden, jutting out, straining to feel his mate’s hot tunnel around it.

Wrapping his fingers around it, Hunter slowly tugged his cock, images of Fionn wriggling in ecstasy filling his mind.

“Hello? Hunt, are you there?” asked Mac.

“What…shit. Mac?”

“Yeah…what’s going on?”

Inwardly sighing, Hunter removed his hand, knowing it would only muddle his brain. “Fionn got drunk today… ”

“No shit!”

“Yeah…well, I was wondering if he’ll have a hangover tomorrow…and if so, what I should do?”

“Wow! Way to go, Hunt. I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes tomorrow,” Mac smirked.

“Why? And how could it happen?” Hunter growled. “I thought paranormals can’t get drunk.”

“Wolf shifters can’t but dragons can. I personally haven’t ever seen it but I read about it in medical school.”

“Fucking great…why didn’t you tell me this?” asked Hunter.

“Uhm…maybe because you didn’t ask?” Mac chuckled.

Groaning in frustration, Hunter continued, “What should I do?”

“Standard treatment…for humans…is plenty of water to hydrate and a course of pain reliever medicine for the jackhammers working overtime in their head. However, dragons react differently…”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, until the alcohol is out of his system, Fionn will be snorting small bursts of flames from his nose caused by the headache he’ll definitely wake up with.

The best thing you can do is take him some place that’s fireproof…

and dark. Considering his size, it shouldn’t take more than eight hours. ”

“Eight hours after he got drunk or…?” asked Hunter.

“After he wakes up. His body metabolizes alcohol very slowly…is this the first time it’s happened?” Mac asked.

“Yeah, as far as I know. Why?”

“It might take longer. ”

“Fucking great! Anything I can do to help it along?” asked Hunter.

“Not really…it might help if he’s near some gold.”

“We can go to his hoard…I can bury him in gold if that will make the pain go away faster,” Hunter said.

“That should help…Fionn’s dragon draws strength when surrounded by gold,” replied Mac.

“Will do and…thanks, Mac.”

“Oh, and a piece of advice: ignore anything your mate says. His dragon’s anger at the pain causes the flames and Fionn will be embarrassed, so he might take it out on you.”

“Gotcha. How’s Quin?”

“Happy…spending a lot of time with Theo, Norm and Kieran.”

“Good,” said Hunter.

“Call me if there are any problems,” Mac advised.

“Promise…bye.”

Ending the call, Hunter groaned, swearing to himself his mate would never have too much to drink again. Thinking it best if Fionn was already at his hoard—buried in gold up to his neck—before he woke up, Hunter decided to leave as soon as possible, but first, there was one more call to make.

Punching in his cousin’s number, Hunter’s mind was already on what he should pack for their trip when Jackson answered.

“Hey, I didn’t expect to hear from you today,” Jackson said. “Isn’t it past your bedtime there? ”

“Har, har,” Hunter replied. “It is but since I’m going to be incommunicado tomorrow, I thought you’d appreciate me calling tonight…but if you’re too busy…”

“Not at all. Actually, I’m glad you did because I wanted to run a couple of things past you,” Jackson said.

“Sure,” Hunter said. “Oracle showed up this morning and met with Carson and Remy…who didn’t object to me and Fionn sitting in on their meeting.”

“And what happened?”

“Well, Remy is the Keeper of All Magic and Ruler of the Mystic Realm and Carson is the Mystic Guardian.” Only silence greeted Hunter’s announcement, so finally, he asked, “Jackie? Jackie, did you hear me?”

Finally, Jackson said, “Yeah, I did…fuck!”

“I know…right? I have to say cousin, it’s a doozy. Fionn had to push my mouth shut when Oracle knelt down in front of Remy…”

“She did what?”

“When Carson introduced his mate to Oracle, she immediately knelt down and greeted him with these titles. Afterward, Oracle explained Remy’s power came from the gods…I’m telling you it was really some wild shit.”

“How’s Carson doing?”

“As far as I can tell, fine. After Oracle left, he and Remy gave us a tour of the winery. By the way, Remy has three younger brothers who are really a handful but they’re cute. Carson adores them.”

“Aww, Daniel, Jake and Jessica will have more cousins.”

“You mean some more pup pack members,” chuckled Hunter.

“That, too.”

“Oracle has left and should be home by tomorrow morning if you have any questions about Remy or Carson.”

“Thanks for the heads up.”

“So, what did you want to talk to me about? I’m sure it won’t come close to my news,” laughed Hunter.

Chuckling, Jackson said, “I’ll let you be the judge. First, Quin wants to become a member of the Blackwood Pack.”

“I thought he was by virtue of me.”

“Of course, he is…but he wants to stay here permanently, well at least for the foreseeable future.”

“Whoa…do you know why?” asked Hunter.

“No, I haven’t spoken to him about it…I wanted to know first what you think.

I’ll say this, though, Quin now is a whole lot different than the Quin I met when you guys arrived.

At mealtimes, he’s laughing and smiling with Theo, Kieran and Norm…

teasing Mason and Sawyer…and even Zane. And he’s super gentle with David.

Hunt, I don’t know his story but whatever he’s found here, has been good for him. ”

“Do you know if he’s spoken to Mase about staying?”

“No, I don’t but I was told he was prepared to submit a petition seeking membership so I assume he’d ask Mason to help him.”

“He’s really serious about this?” asked Hunter.

“It appears so.”

“I have to think about this Jackie. I haven’t told any of my brothers I don’t intend to go back east. My home is with Fionn and he wants to be with your pack so that’s where I’ll be, but I still feel I should run my plans past them.”

“Do you think any of them will have a problem with it?”
