Chapter 45

Chapter Forty-Five

“ R hett, I won!” Lisa said excitedly. It was almost five, and they’d just gotten home from Sunday dinner at her daughter Abby’s house. It had been a nice treat to have someone else do all the cooking and to just sit back and enjoy. Lisa normally had everyone to her house on Sundays and she loved cooking, but Abby figured that she would appreciate a day off after all the cooking she’d done that week for the food festival. Lisa checked her computer several times before they headed off to Abby’s and the results weren’t up yet.

Rhett joined her in the kitchen, where Lisa was sitting at the island with her laptop open.

“What did you win?” he asked.

“I won twice, actually! In the bed-and-breakfast category, I won for best entrée and best dessert.”

Rhett put his arms around her from behind, leaned in, and gave her a kiss.

“Congratulations! I had no doubt that you would win.”

“Thanks, honey. I hoped I’d do well, but I really just wanted to beat Violet. I heard that her quiche wasn’t very good, but you never know.”

“Now everyone will know. You’ll have to update your website.”

“Oh, you’re right. I’ll talk to Marley, she can help me with that.” Marley had set up Lisa’s website and marketing strategies as she had a background in selling products online. She opened her Shopify site where she took orders for her products and her jaw dropped. “Rhett, look at this!” She showed him the orders that had come in that day, and there were three times the normal amount.

“That’s fantastic. Violet actually did you a favor, it seems.”

Lisa wasn’t sure what he meant. “How so?”

“Well, if she hadn’t bragged about how she was going to win at the food festival, you never would have entered.”

Lisa laughed. “That’s so true!”
