Chapter One

“What’s up, honey?” he asked.

“Have you seen my sister, Dorothy?”

“Bingo,” Wayne said.

“You got it. Do you want a drink?”

They also had the worst pickup lines.

“No, thank you,” she said.

“So, I take it all men are off your radar?”

“No, men are on my radar…”

“Who’s William?”

“I don’t date wolves,” Eloise said.

“You don’t?”

“Nope. Never have, never will.”

“Is that a bad thing?”

“You’re interested in my name?”

“Yeah, I am.”

“Tell me yours.”

She partly expected him not to reciprocate.

“Beau. Beau Alpha.”

“Alpha? That’s your name?”

****

“Not who you were expecting?”

“It’s my turn.”

“Ah, your wife send you out?”

“Don’t have a wife,”

“Oh.”

“I wasn’t—”

“Do you?”

“Do I what?” she asked.

“Have a boyfriend or a girlfriend?”

“Oh, no, I don’t have, uh, either.”

“Did you find your sister?” he asked.

“Yeah, I did.”

“You do?” he asked, frowning.

“My pack.”

“Is it a big pack?”

“Some days it feels like it’s too big.”

She began to chuckle.

“Where’s your dad?” he asked.

“You like it here?” he asked.

“I do, for the most part,” she said.

“What don’t you like?”

Her cheeks went bright red.

“I’m going to say the wolves,” he said.

“What is it then?” he asked.

“They don’t … consider us worthy.”

This made him frown.
