Chapter 17

In the walk-in closet at the pool house, I add some pictures and names underneath Ryan’s image on the makeshift board I’ve set up on one of the walls. It’s really just a sheet I tacked up, but it works for my purposes.

I put a star on Milo Cole’s face because I’ll hopefully be talking to him tomorrow. He’s on Garcia’s suspect list and he is one of Ryan’s alibis. And was Cara’s boss.

I don’t like that at all.

It could mean nothing, but… Okay, I’m spiraling. See, this is why I need Alex (though I’ll never, ever tell her that). She and I like to bounce ideas off each other when working an investigation.

So I text her. I’m going to B it would put her in danger. While I’m feeling reckless myself, I’ll never do anything to hurt her. My specialty has always been self-sabotage.

Only ten minutes pass before Alex comes back out. “They aren’t anywhere I can see, but I saw a couple guys going through a back door. I guess they could have been in the bathroom the whole time, but I doubt it. Want to sit on the place?”

I debate that for a second, but when I read Foxe’s incoming text, I blink. Wasn’t expecting that. I hold my phone out to Alex and she blinks too.

I put my seat belt back on. “Let’s head out. We know where Thick Neck will be when we’re done.”

Now it’s time to break into Ava and Ryan’s house.
