Chapter Thirty-Three
Olivia
Kayden stepped out of Jace’s office looking more nervous than usual.
He kissed Jace before walking toward me.
Jace’s schedule was jam-packed today and since he’d had me clear an hour for the two of us to have lunch together every day this week, I’d had to shorten Kayden’s meeting by fifteen minutes to redo the Tetris that was my boyfriend’s calendar.
I suspected they’d had to spend the entire meeting finalizing their design, rather than doing what they often liked to do in there.
The board was coming in on Thursday for their final presentation and even Martin was joining in person.
Usually, when the board came in from New York, Martin conferenced in as if he was making a statement that he wouldn’t be traveling to Boston for anything since company headquarters was in New York.
Jace had given Sutton a heads up that Martin was less than thrilled about the financial increases and she was making a point to attend to ensure he knew where she stood on the matter.
“Hey,” I said as Kayden stopped in front of my desk.
Jace leaned against the doorframe of his office watching us with a satisfied smile on his face.
“Please tell me you don’t need to see him again before the board meeting on Thursday, because if you do, I’m going to schedule you for an evening meeting and you can work over dinner. ”
Kayden chuckled. “We’re good for the board presentation. We actually won’t need to meet much more about this facility at all. If the board is happy with it, I’ll finalize things for the construction team and send it directly to them.”
“Oh, okay,” I said. Does that mean I’ll see less of you here?
“I was wondering if you’d want to get dinner with me?” he asked.
I lifted an eyebrow and glanced past him to Jace, who looked extremely amused as he sipped the Starbucks Kayden had brought him.
“Did you tell him to ask me out?” I called to Jace.
“Nope,” Jace said, smirking. “This was all his idea.”
Kayden looked between us before settling his eyes back on me with a hopeful expression.
“What is the purpose of this dinner invitation?” I asked, wanting to be certain I didn’t make any assumptions here. “Do you want to talk about sharing custody of our daughter? Or the fact that we’re in love with the same man?”
“Neither.” Kayden smiled at me. “Olivia, I think there’s still something between us.
I want to go to dinner to see if you feel it too.
And if you don’t, then yes, we should figure out those other things.
But if you do, well then…I guess we’ll still figure all that out eventually, but I’d really like to go on a date with you. ”
“I was going to ask you out today,” I said, pointing at Jace in the doorway. “That’s why Smirky McSmirkerson looks so damn smug right now.”
“That explains why he practically pushed me out of his office.” Kayden chuckled. “He does seem very amused by us.”
“Yeah, I think we should teach him a lesson,” I said.
“How so?”
“I say we go to dinner and then keep our decision to ourselves for a week.”
Kayden laughed. “He thinks he already knows exactly what we’re going to decide.”
“Unfortunately for us, I suspect he’s right,” I said as my heart skipped a beat. “I would love to go to dinner with you, Kayden. I’m allergic to shellfish, so as long as you don’t pick a strictly seafood place, wherever you want to go is fine with me.”
“Okay. Tonight?” he asked.
I looked at Jace and rolled my eyes at his exorbitant grin. “Are you free to babysit tonight?”
He shrugged. “It looks like both my boyfriend and my girlfriend are busy, so yes, I’d be happy to hang with the little one.”
“I’d like some time with Kaylee after work before we go. If you want to say goodnight to her before we leave, you two could come over around seven,” I said to Kayden.
“I’d love that, Olivia. Thank you.” He fiddled with the strap on his messenger bag. “I’ll see you tonight.”
“Sounds good.”
He waved to both of us and started for the elevator.
“Hey, Kayden?”
He turned back to look at me. “Yeah?”
“I already feel it, so you don’t have to be nervous. I really want to go on a date with you too. That’s the other reason our guy looks so smug and certain.”
Kayden’s smile filled his face as he glanced at Jace. “I’ll see you both tonight.”
As soon as Kayden had stepped into the elevator Jace closed the distance between us and pulled me into his arms. He kissed the top of my head and squeezed me tight. “I love you so much, Liv.”
“I love you too. I want him too, Jace, I just don’t want any of us to get hurt.”
“I’ll never hurt either of you.” He pulled back to look at me. “Unless you ask me too, of course,” he added with a flirty smile.
I chuckled and wrapped my arms around him.
“How long until my next meeting?” Jace asked.
“Fifteen minutes. This is your eating window for the day.” I pointed to the sandwich I’d had delivered for him.
He took my hand and pulled me toward his office. “If I have fifteen minutes, I’m eating what I really want.”
“I should cut your meetings with Kayden short more often if it means I get an afternoon delight,” I said with a chuckle as he shut the door behind us.
“Sweetheart, don’t insult me. I sucked Kayden off ten minutes ago. I can pleasure you both in the middle of my workday just fine.”
I laughed as he picked me up, set me on his desk, and spread my legs. “I could get used to this,” I sighed as his hands traveled up my thighs.
“Good, then you’ll never quit.”
I mean, I do I like getting pleasured by my boss right after lunch.
