Killian can wield flame.
“I failed you tonight, Leseldh. Please forgive me.”
The reality of Leseldh’s words were a knife wound, because they reinforced the thoughts that plagued him on the journey home.
“I’ll make it up to you.”
“How do you intend on doing that?”
“I’ll protect you. I’ll take you to safety.” Voresta pushed as much devotion into his words as he could.
“I want my Resonant, Voresta.”
“We need to leave her behind, Leseldh. Ivy will be your destruction.”
When Leseldh’s eyes flashed, he knew that it was a reality his Sire was not yet ready to hear. Leseldh dragged Voresta to his feet, his other hand clasping around his throat. His grip tightened, his nails sinking into Voresta’s flesh.
“With or without her, I'm already destroyed!” Leseldh shouted in his face, his eyes glowing incandescent with his rage.
Voresta considered his next words carefully.
“I’ll get you your Resonant,” Voresta choked the words out. Leseldh’s grip loosened incrementally, enough for the rest of his plea to flow freely. “But I need to come up with a plan. Let’s at least take refuge, Sire. Killian’s fire is a serious threat.”
Leseldh’s golden irises flickered, confirming that he was already aware of Killian’s Blood Gift. If there was a point that Voresta could leverage, he knew it would be the very thing that killed Malia. He was relieved when Leseldh released his throat, the only indication that he’d conceded.
“I’ll make the arrangements. We’ll leave tomorrow.” Voresta turned to leave the room.
“Voresta.” Leseldh’s call stopped him. When their eyes met, Voresta saw sheer determination in Leseldh’s stare. In that same, deadly calm tone, he added, “I will End each and every person that gets in my way. Even if I must destroy the fucking Council itself. I will have my Malia.”
Voresta nodded, letting out a shuddering breath as he turned away, leaving Leseldh to seethe.
He’d take Leseldh somewhere safe. But first, he needed to channel his anger and betrayal into his training.
