Epilogue

Killian

Killian watched as Ivy passed through the door to the Portal Building, followed by Ozias. Finare readied himself to step through next, but Killian placed his hand on his shoulder before he could open the door. The touch made Finare spin back around to face him.

“Thank you for helping me back there.”

Finare raised a hand and clapped Killian on the shoulder.

“You know, I never thought I’d see myself having a drink with the Hunter. Next thing you know, I’m fighting by his side, coming to his rescue, and feeding him my blood. What’s next?” A playful grin crept across Finare’s features.

“I guess only time will tell.” Killian’s lips curled upward in a smirk. Finare inclined his head towards the Portal Building’s door, and Killian nodded. Wordlessly, Finare entered the Portal.

Killian followed, and his senses were assaulted when he stepped onto the cobblestone street of Zentroa. He was immediately struck by a cacophony of sounds—the loudest of all was Ivy’s screaming. Killian’s body flooded with heat as he heard the panic in her voice.

He saw an excessive number of Council employees surrounding the Portal Building, despite being situated directly across from the Council Building. Ivy was being dragged across the street by a pair of guards, and Finare was hurrying after them, shouting his protests at them but was being ignored.

Killian surged towards Ivy, but a cluster of staff moved to block his path, which only inflamed his rage further.

“I would be careful how you proceed, Killian Maurell.” A familiar voice called out over the rabble, causing those around him to fall silent.

A Vampire in a crisp black suit and tie stepped out from behind a cluster of employees and strode up to Killian.

He recognised him instantly as memories of Inquiries flooded his mind.

“What are you doing with my Resonant?” Killian snarled through gritted teeth.

Inquisitor Norrix Idthraki merely stared at Killian imperiously. “Ivy has been formally summoned to an Inquiry.”

Icy fingers of dread wrapped themselves around Killian’s heart. How did they find out so fast?

“I demand that Finare and I are present for the Inquiry.” Killian’s voice was as hard as Zarserian Ebony, and he rose to his full height to loom over Norrix. The Inquisitor was unperturbed by the display of dominance.

“Do you have information pertaining to the Ending of Leseldh Idthraki?”

“Yes,” Killian replied almost before Norrix could finish the question.

“Very well, follow me.” Norrix swept off towards the Council Building, leaving them to hurry after him.
