Chapter 77 Poppy
O pening up Owen’s note, I see it’s the letter I left him that very first morning after our impromptu rendezvous at Andi’s wedding. Thank you, Owen. You made my first night back in Honey Cove completely memorable.
“You kept it?” My voice is barely a whisper. I can’t believe he kept it. Who keeps a note from a one-night stand?
“Of course. Like I said, I knew there was just something about you that drew me to you. I’ve never felt like that before.” His warm eyes smile at me, crinkling at the edges and he holds out his hand for me to grab.
“Me either, but I will say, seeing you at that first staff meeting threw me for a loop.” Squeezing his wrist I wrinkle my nose at him. That did freak me out. But I quickly felt better after hearing the whole story from Noah and the other staff. Things fell into place.
“I bet you thought I was a bit of a creeper then, huh?” He nudges me with his elbow before kissing my cheek.
“Just a little. But I know the truth now.”
“Oh yeah, and what is that?”
“That you’re a kind, amazing man who is ridiculously good at sex and holds my heart in his very capable hands.” I shake my head for an added effect before smirking at him and planting a kiss on his cheek.
He lets out a deep laugh before we move to look out our window onto the city. “I’ll take it,” he adds as he wraps his arms around me from behind. “The city is beautiful.”
“It is.” We stand in silence for a few minutes, taking in the view before he sighs and goes to unpack the rest of his bag.
“What would you like to do tonight? You don’t have to work until tomorrow morning, right?” He lays his things out on the crisp linen bedspread and I sink down against the pillows and open up my planner to double check my schedule.
“Yup, today is just for settling and getting our bearings. I was thinking we could go out to my favorite restaurant down the street?”
“That sounds good. Anything else you’d like to see or get?”
“Coffee, for sure.” I crawl towards him at the end of the bed, another idea popping into my head. “Also, I think we should make our first night in Toronto completely memorable .”
