Chapter 70 Gift

Gift

PART ONE

“So you’re telling me that the baby girl has all the attitude?” Mrs. Adams laughs as I tell her about my babies and their personality. I nod, making a turn. I’m dropping her off in the town before I check doctor Jacobs to see if I’m gonna be a mother of three or not.

Mi really hope you pregnant! My subconscious says pissing me off.

Why would you want that?

I ignore her. Every time I think about it, I start feeling the labor pain.

It’s weird, but that’s how anxious I am. My anxiety is crazy. I start focusing on Mrs. Adams again as I drive through the traffic.

“The baby boy has attitude too?” She questions and I shake my head no.

“He’s the calmer one,” I answer. Nickoi seems calm and his temper is crazy, so I don’t know if Zahir is like that. If he is then he’d be Nickoi’s twin altogether. Look alike, act alike. They would be too similar. Mi nuh like that, nothing fi me?

Him have your hair so that count, my subconscious reminds me.

I guess.

“Maybe deep down he has it,” she says like she’s reading my mind. I nod in agreement. She chuckles before she tells me where she’s coming off. I pull over, smiling as she gets out.

“I’m going to check on my sister, drive safe and take care of those babies,”she says with a warm smile. She’s always so sweet.

“I will and thank you,” I tell her, smiling too. She throws her hand bag over her shoulder before she waves.

“Later, take care!” I tell her.

When I’m about to drive I hear my phone ringing. I quickly dig through myhand bag, taking out my phone. Watch ya? A yuh huzzy.

“Mi just know a you,” I blush before I slide the screen. He’s sitting on the lounge chair in our backyard and I can hear music playing. His friends areconversing loudly in the background too.

“Bros over?” I ask. He nods with a smile.

“Yeh man the dawg dem deh a foot.”

“Okay… unuh need anything?”

“Nosah we Gov man, a you me wah deh home. A almost four o’ clock, mi wah yuh yasso wid me,” he smiles. The dimples. The smile. The whiteteeth. Ouu all mine. All yours sis!

He’s looking like a snack. I mean, my snack. I miss his braces though but hetook them out a while back. Nevertheless, he’s still fine.

“Weh yaw think bout?”

I smile shyly, ignoring him. Then I drive off with the phone on my lap.

“Eeeh, weh yaw think bout the Don?” This man is so conceited. Ugh.

“Thinking about how good you look,” I purr. When he gets quiet I glance at him. He’s just puffing his spliff, watching me silently.

“Sound like you wah one a dem thing deh gwan again,” he smirks. I can just imagine how crazy my face looks right now. That’s how bad I’mblushing. Nosah.

.

“Which thing?” I ask biting the inside of my lip subtly. His stare is sexy even though the smoke is making it hard to see his face.

“Creep,” I say playfully.

“Yow mi Don look yer!” Gutta laughs, grabbing his attention. Nickoi looksaway then he starts laughing too. Chro.

“A this Anna seh she a buy fi me enuh,” Gutta continues to laugh. Their laughter is contagious making me smile.

He then spots me on the phone and greets me. “Wah gean Zara?” He’s still recovering from his laughing fit. These men are so goofy when they’re happy.

“Mi good but mi mad at you,” I say, bothering him.

Gutta raises his eyebrows. “Wah mi do?”

Nick looks at him. “A just that yuh take weh babe from me a while ago,” I explain and they start laughing. A me alone see the fear inna Gutta eyes a while ago? Maybe thought I’d lie about suh’m.

“Ohh sorry sorry sorry,” he apologizes with his hands in the air. The others are still laughing uncontrollably.

“The man freeze enuh, why yuh do that Zara?” Rick laughs.

“Yuh frighten me enuh,” Gutta says in between laughs.

“Sorry I was just playing.”

Nickoi is smiling.

Gutta is always serious, I can tell by everything he does.

But the fact thathe’s afraid of Nickoi? That’s alarming.

I glance at Nickoi, laughing with his friends, and I can’t help but wonder: who is he when I’m not around?

Deadly. I used to think Gutta was the coldest of them all, a man without atrace of feeling.

But if even he fears Nickoi… just how dangerous is Nickoi, really? .

And look how yuh talk to him and hangle him sometime? My subconscious laughs.

Guess me a get weh… and I guess he has several personalities.

“Weh you reach now?” his question drags me from my thoughts.

“Oh uh… I’ll be home soon mi just a go check your aunty,” I tell him.

His face softens. “Alone?” Awww…

“Mi know a the both a we did plan fi go but like how mi a leave from work now it mek sense mi just go get it over with, I don’t really need company,” I hope he understands. He doesn’t like it when I’m alone doing certain stuff.

“Zara mi wah be there,” he says.

“Babe have fun with your bros, mi a go just check it and text you as soon as I get the results. Okay?” I raise my brows. He doesn’t want to work with what I’m saying but he nods.

“Ah… mek sure I’m the first to know.”

“Promise,” I retort. He’s gonna be the first to know, besides the doctor.

“Ye Mami, I love you,” he tells me and I smile.

“I love you more.”

Before he could hang up I start talking again. “Wah you think it’s gonna be?

Or what you want it to be?”

“Wah you wah mi answer first?”

“Both,” I roll my eyes playfully.

“It’s gonna be what God allows it to be,” I laugh at his vagueanswer. “And mi want it fi be anything weh the results say.”I shake my head slowly.

“Easy way out,” I tease and he shrugs with a smile.

“Chro,” I say and he chuckles before he hangs up.

As I drive to the doctor’s office I think about the whole thing.

I don’tthink I’m ready for another baby but then was I in the firstplace?

And I’m a mom right now, Right? So why do I feelincapable of having another baby?

Or being a mom of three. Money is not a problem enuh.

Being a mom has been the hardest job I’ve ever done and the best. I didn’t know mystrength until I’ve became a mother.

Stop worrying, if you pregnant you can do it again, you’restrong and if you’re not, USE PROTECTION! My subconscious yells at me.

When I’m there, I go to the bathroom just to look at myself and get ready.

The bathroom door pulls behind me and a girlcomes in arguing on the phone with her boyfriend.

I quickly leave. That’s awkward. I smile at the people in the waiting room before I walk over to the receptionist. “Hey good evening, Mrs. Jacobs is expecting me,” I whisper.

The office is quiet and everyone is just staring around so I’m sure they’d love to hear a conversation and the Tv is running too but the sound is low, making it pointless to watch. She gives me asmile.

“You can go inside,” her voice soft. I slowly push the door open and it’s cold as hell inside. Whew.

“Hey Zara,” she gets up hugging me after I close the door. I tighten my arms around her before I pull away.

“You look so lovely,” she looks at me from head to toe with a wide smile.

“Thank you,” I smile. “You too.”

“Ha, I look regula,” she chuckles before she grabs herremote, adjusting the Ac. Thank you! I take my seat and she sits too. “How are you?” She smiles. I’ve already told her what I’m here for on the call so I guess she’s just doing a little small talk to calm me.

“I’m anxious,” I tell her honestly. The pep talk nuh work? Not really. Pep talk don’t really work for an over-thinker. Well, for me at least. I want results.

“Arite no need to,” she says.

As I leave the office I walk over to Nickoi’s black Benz. He still doesn’t get back my baby yet, she’s still at the body man. Oooh kay…

The woman that was in the bathroom walks out, making her way over to a white Bimma. There’s a man standing at the door. I can feel his eyes on me. I rest the purse on the bonnet, looking for the key and when I find it I press it, unlocking the door. I’m not going to look at him.

A muss somebody him a look… and mi nah look nobody so mi nah look.

“Mi ready,” the girl says.

“Wul on,” I hear him say before he walks over to me. I’m now sitting in the car.

He’s leaning on my window.

“Hey do I know you?” He asks and I look up confused.

I shrug.

He smiles. “I ask cause yuh look like my next girlfriend.” Um, no.

I force a smile. “I’m married.”

“Oh sorry,” he apologizes.

“How are you?” I question. He’s a tall, brown guy with his hair twist. The ends are dyed in red. He has a nose piercing. Not bad looking at all.
