Epilogue 1

Andi

“Can you believe it's been a year?” I squeezed Cam's hand as we made our way through the glittering crowds at the charity gala. It was basically a Who's Who of Lowball Bay. All of the Sea Dragons were here, all dressed in tuxedos. Many with partners, others not. All of the coaches and a lot of the staff were here too.

They were joined by the richest and most influential people in the city. Including Harman Fields, the owner of the Lowball Bay Sea Cucumbers NBA team. I'd worked with him in the past and considered him a friend.

Rafe, who was hovering around near the drink table with Jacoby, was ecstatic. His idea of revenge for drawing on them was season tickets to all the Sea Dragons home games, for life. Considering what he might have done, I got off lightly.

“It feels like a week,” Cam said. “At the same time, it feels like a lifetime. Don't look now, but your mother is coming over here.”

I suppressed a groan and forced a smile instead. “Mom.” I kissed her cheek and to my surprise, she kissed mine.

“Andrea, you're practically glowing.” She leaned back and smiled at us both.

Some things would never change.

I put a finger to my lips. “It's too early to tell everyone yet.”

She waved a hand at me. “It'll be time soon enough. As for you,” she raised her eyebrows at Cam.

“Yes, Mom?” He'd taken to calling her that teasingly, but she hadn't told him to stop. I think she secretly liked it.

She looked at him down her nose.

He raised his finger in the air. “Right. I knew there was something I'd forgotten.”

I frowned at him. “What is it? Did we forget to order enough punch?”

He grinned and sank to one knee as he pulled something out of his pocket .

My lips dropped apart at the sight of a small black box in his hand. “You didn't?”

He shrugged. “I figured I would, after all the hard work you've put into tonight.” He took my hand. “In case you hadn't noticed, I'm crazy about you. Since we met, my life has been better. So much more than I ever could have asked for. Some days, I wonder if I deserve you, but I'd like to spend the rest of my life trying to prove that I do. Will you marry me?”

I blinked away a haze of tears and nodded. “Of course I will. I'd like nothing more than to be your wife.”

“It's about time,” Mom muttered. “I had my doubts about him, but he's changed my mind. Welcome to the family, Cameron.”

Her blessing was a start. We'd have to work on the rest of it later.

I let him slip the ring on my finger and pulled him to his feet so I could kiss him. I didn't care who saw. Let everyone watch and know that he was mine.

Now and forever.
