Chapter 19

Nineteen

Charlie

My body was still humming when Axel climbed back up onto the bed beside me and kissed my cheek. I turned to face him, wincing slightly when the baby kicked me at the same time I rolled onto my side.

“What’s wrong?” he asked, his voice immediately filled with panic as his hand reached for me.

“Nothing,” I said, letting out a deep breath as I tried to breathe through the pain. “She just kicked me hard, and I’m a little sore.”

“Maybe we should get some rest,” he offered, giving me a look I didn’t like because I knew what it meant.

“I’m fine. Really. We should keep going because we were just getting to the good part.”

I waggled my eyebrows to drive the point home further, just in case he wasn’t picking up what I put down.

“Trust me, there’s plenty of time for all of that later. But right now, you need to rest.”

I scrunched my face as I pouted, hating that he was right.

While I was aroused and ready to see what else he could do, I also knew how tired I was and worried that I would fall asleep in the middle of sex if we actually tried to have it.

I wanted nothing more than to pleasure him and watch him come undone from my touch, but I didn’t want to disappoint him if I couldn’t follow through due to exhaustion.

“Do you want me to get your pajamas, or do you want to sleep naked?” Axel asked, his eyes darkening slightly as he said 'naked'.

“Well, that depends. If I sleep naked, will you promise to pick this up where we left off tonight?”

“I promise to do whatever you want me to.”

A shiver raced up my spine at the thought of the pure pleasure Axel could give me. He’d barely touched me, and I was ready to come within seconds. I held off as long as I could, but his tongue was too magical for me to resist.

“Sleeping naked it is,” I said with another waggle of my eyebrows before a genius idea washed over me. “But, you have to sleep naked too.”

It was brave and bold and so unlike me to say something like that, but the second he got off the bed and began undressing, I knew I had made the right decision to say it.

His body was pure perfection, sculpted by the gods of steamy romance novels with divine dips and curves that I couldn’t wait to explore. He tossed his clothes into the hamper and grabbed mine so I didn’t trip over them if I got up to use the bathroom.

I couldn’t help but stare at his cock as it jutted up to his stomach, begging for relief.

My mouth watered at the thought of sucking it and feeling him come down my throat, but I knew he wasn’t going to let me touch him tonight.

He was determined to make sure I got rest, and I knew better than to try to convince him otherwise.

“Rest tonight, play tomorrow,” he said as if reading every dirty thought in my head as he gripped his cock tightly, making me ache with need again.

He climbed into bed and pulled the covers over us before wrapping his arms around me and pulling me against his chest. My ass was so close to his cock that if I moved just slightly, I could line it up perfectly.

“Don’t even think about it,” he warned playfully before resting a protective hand on my belly and holding me like I’d never been held before.

I closed my eyes and didn’t try to fight it as I quickly fell asleep in his arms.

I shifted as I struggled to get comfortable while Axel continued to hold me. My body ached as a contraction shot through me, lighting my stomach on fire from the pure intensity of it. I reached for my stomach and felt something sticky and wet.

My eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the darkness as I felt another burning pain radiating from my stomach. I moved my hand further, trying to clutch my stomach to stop the pain when I felt something cold and sharp.

“Don’t try anything stupid,” Jo said as she glared at me while pushing the knife deeper into my stomach. “If you make me hurt this baby, I will kill you.”

“Why are you doing this?” I croaked, my throat dry as I tried to get the words out.

She pulled the knife out of my stomach and held it up, the blood on it catching in the light.

“Because it turns out this baby is worth quite a bit,” she replied with a smile. “Once I hand it over, I’ll have enough money to take me anywhere I want to go.”

“I thought we were friends,” I stammered, staring at her in disbelief.

I looked over my shoulder at Axel, praying he would wake up and stop this.

“Yeah, you would be wrong. We’re not friends. Never were. Friendship is overrated, as you can see.” She nodded to Axel before reaching over and turning his head to face me.

A blood-curdling scream ripped from my throat as I noticed the bullet hole in the middle of his head, as his lifeless eyes stared at me. I used all the strength I had and tried to shove Jo off of me as I felt the blood leaking from my stomach.

“I don’t think so,” Jo growled, climbing on top of me as she held me down with one hand and grabbed the knife with the other.

“Are you almost done?” a woman’s voice asked, but I didn’t recognize it until she walked closer and I saw Dr. Foster. “We don’t have all night. He’ll be here any minute.”

“Hold her down, and I’ll cut the baby out,” Jo said sternly.

I screamed at the top of my lungs, praying someone—anyone would hear me as they held me down and cut my baby out of my body.
