Jo

Feeling Dom’s lips pressed against mine sent a rush of heat through my body, but it was the moment his hands slid down my waist and brushed my ass that had it humming with need.

I parted my lips, deepening the kiss as he allowed my tongue to explore his mouth.

A soft whimper escaped my lips as his hands grabbed my ass and pulled me closer to him, the hard thickness of his cock pressing against me.

Knowing that nothing good could come of this, I stepped back and wiped the corners of my lips as I looked at Dom.

His eyes were dark with arousal as he licked his lips, tasting me after that kiss.

We stood there for a few seconds, neither saying anything as I struggled to process what had just happened.

Dom hadn’t been there for more than a day, and I had already kissed him.

Regardless of my past with Tray, I couldn’t ignore that he was, at one point, my ex-husband’s best friend.

It felt like a betrayal to kiss him, even though I didn’t love Tray and we were officially divorced.

But still, there was something about what we did that felt wrong, which I hated with an intensity because nothing in my life had ever felt so right.

“I’m sorry—” I started, pulling back in surprise when he lifted his hand to stop me.

“Please don’t do that.”

“Do what?”

“Apologize for what happened.”

“But, Dom, we both know...”

“How much we enjoyed it? Yeah, we both know how fucking incredible that was.”

I pressed my lips together to keep from saying anything else because it was obvious things weren’t going to go how I thought they should.

Dom reached out and gently held my shoulders as I looked everywhere but at him.

“You forget that I know you, Jo. I knew you were going to freak out about that kiss the second your lips were on mine. I also knew how much you wanted it because of how your body reacted to me. If you need time to think about what happened and process it, that’s fine.

I will give you all the time you need. But if you’re feeling guilty about what happened because of Tray, I won’t allow that to happen.

Fuck Tray. He never deserved you, Jo, and I refuse to allow him to continue to steal any of your happiness. ”

My lower lip began quivering as I pulled away and walked past him to the bathroom.

It wasn’t that Dom had done anything wrong that upset me.

It was that he was doing everything right.

I took some time to cool down in the shower while I thought about what Dom had said. He was right, but that still didn’t help me accept the fact that something was happening between us. Dom had always been off limits, so it was a total mind blower that suddenly he wasn’t anymore.

I put on some makeup and did my hair, knowing that all the effort I put in was for Dom, because I rarely bothered to get ready anymore.

There was something about wanting to look nice for him that made me scold myself because I had never wanted a man’s approval before.

But Dom wasn’t just any man, and no matter how many times I reminded myself this was wrong, I couldn’t get myself to stop wanting his approval.

When I finished getting ready, I found Dom at the kitchen table, sipping coffee and looking at something on his phone.

“I need to go grocery shopping later today,” I said as a way of announcing my presence in the room. I rolled my eyes at how weird that sounded, but moved forward. “We can grab lunch at the bar if you want. I need to stop by and check in with Charlie.”

“She’s the one with the baby that I met yesterday?”

“Yeah, she’s Molly’s mom. She and Axel are moving into their new house, and I offered to watch Molly for a few hours.”

“That’s really nice of you.”

I shrugged, because it was weird to hear anyone call me ‘nice’.

“Molly is like the niece I never had. I adore that little girl so much.”

“If you give me a list, I can run to the store and do the grocery shopping if you need me to,” Dom offered, lowering his cup to the table as he smiled at me.

“Thank you, but I don’t mind going. We can have lunch, then do our shopping before I have them drop Molly off.”

“Sounds like a plan.”

“You don’t have to—”

“I don’t have to do shit,” he replied, cutting me off. “I would love nothing more than to have lunch with you and get to know your friends before going grocery shopping and helping take care of your niece.”

“You really have an answer for everything, don’t you?”

“You really like to fight me on everything, don’t you?” he countered, making the corners of my lips lift. “Better get used to it, Jo, because I’m here to stay and I don’t plan on backing down when it comes to you.”

He got up and took his cup to the sink as I stood there in stunned silence.

It wasn’t often that anyone was able to put me in my place the way Dom did, which left me pondering if I had finally met my match.
