Glossary
A mare —the title given to a secondary male in a dark fae household, meaning ‘beloved’ and showing a meaningful bond between males, contrary to the term ‘servus’ that showed a submissive, subservient role.
Biesy(plur)/Bies(sing) is a personification of all the undefined evil forces in nature. Once, they were placed amongst the most dangerous and oldest demons in Central and Eastern Europe. They were massive bison-like beasts with horns and hooves that were hostile and resistant to most types of weapons.
Borovio —one of the seven dukedoms of the Dagome kingdom, governed by the Erenhart family.
Domine —the official title of the primary(alpha) male in a dark fae household responsible for the protection and external affairs. His authority is almost equal to Domina’s.
Domina(sing)/dominae(plur )—a lady of her own domain. Dark fae title for the head of the household.
Falchion —abroad, slightly curved sword with a cutting edge on the convex side
Geas —a form of magical compulsion, curse, or obligation. Those under a geas are required to follow certain conditions or orders, risking death for disobedience.
Ghoul —minorWel demon. A male with pale bodies, sharp fangs and poisonous claws that feasted on dead bodies, preferably freshly killed.
Jarylo —god of fertility and spring, exceptionally well endowed.
Kirbai —a hybrid of the horse and snow leopard created by Cahyon Abyasa before he was corrupted by foul magic. The animal is known for its intelligence, fierce nature, and loyalty. It can survive in the harshest environments and climb almost vertical walls.
Kirtle —adress similar to men’s tunics. They were loose and reached to below the knees or lower. Slits on the sides were pulled tight to fit the figure. Kirtles were typically worn over a chemise or smock and under a formal outer garment or surcoat.
Lanara poison —a potent poison invented specifically for the mages. It suppresses the ability to connect with aether and, therefore, cast the spell.
Latawce(plur. )/Latawiec(sing. )—shapeshifting demons. They flew in the currents; their physical bodies were similar to large birds with sharp claws and colourful feathers, with human heads. They could shift into any human to tempt the victim with their song, and when they sang, those who heard it clawed their bodies, ripping the flesh as an offering for the ravenous demons.
Mamuna —a female swamp demon in Slavic mythology known for being malicious and dangerous.
Morgenstern —otherwise known as Morning Star flail – mace with a chain ended with a spiky ball.
Olgoi —blind earthworm with rows of serrated teeth, famous for drilling tunnels in the dirt and rocks. They rarely hunt sentient beings, but during starvation periods, they can move to the surface and hunt for warm-blooded prey.
Peasant’s crown —a traditional crown-like braid for women
Ragróg(sing)/Ragógs(plur.) —fire demons coming in the shape of horse-size falcons with beaks and claws made of burning embers and wings that start fires while they fly.
Skeins —length of thread or yarn, loosely coiled and knotted
Spectrae —major Wel. Ghost-like creatures created from tortured and fractured souls. They feed on the life force of other beings attempting to regain their solid shape and restore themselves. Particularly attracted to the life force of the dragon.
Striga(sing)/Strigae(plur.) —MonorWel demon, A female demon born from violent death. They hunted those who wronged them, and once their vengeance was completed, they hunted for any human. They looked like skinny females with two rows of teeth, large claws, and leather-like hair.
Utopiec(sing)/Utopce(plur)— spirits of human souls that died drowning, residing in the element of their own demise. They are responsible for sucking people into swamps and lakes as well as killing the animals standing near the still waters.
Vambraces —forearm guards are tubular or gutter defences for the forearm worn as part of a suit of plate armour that was often connected to gauntlets.
Vjesci —(originally from Polish folklore adjusted to the lore) An undead demon that preserved the thoughts, personality, and body of the person. After death, the body would cool closely, and the limbs would remain limber. The lips and cheeks would remain, and spots of blood often appeared under the fingernails and on the face.
Vyraj —an afterlife paradise for those who deserve it and warriors who have fallen in battle.
Wlok —a major demon that looks like a tumbleweed made of bones. It rolled over the roads and fields, killing any living creature that had bones inside to include them in its existence in the constant need of growing.
CLASSES OF MAGIC USERS:
HIGH MAGIC ORDER
Healer
A mage uses the aether to alter the natural processes in the body. This is usually applied to healing but can also cause alterations and mutations in natural beings.
Enhancer
A mage is able to take the power in objects and other mages and weave it into patterns that enhance the effectiveness of what spell is being used.
Illusion
A mage. who manipulates light to create realistic images but can also sense the surface thoughts of a person to trick them into focusing on it and not theirsurroundings
Psychic/Psionic
Amage is able to discern the Aether within a person’s soul and can interact with it on a base level, influencing emotion and thought to various degrees depending on their ability to relateandempathise.
Artificer
A mage is able to create artefacts that perform magical spells by altering the flow of Aether through an object. It often requires various stages to construct, with many glyph diagrams infused, melded, or etched into the artefact.
PRIMAL MAGIC ORDER
Paladin
A mage of the warrior class well versed in classic fighting techniques who applies magic in conjunction with his fighting style.
Elemental
A mage who uses primarily elemental force in his spells or is able to direct elements. Mages can be specialised or versatile in their use of elements.
Animage
A mage able to both communicate with animals and shapeshift into animal form. Minort alents are used in husbandry. Those with major talent are often to communicate with animals marked by aether, like dragons, gryphons, and manticores.
Seer
A mage who is able to foresee future events as well as recall the past from a person or object. This class is often used as advisors or investigators pending individual affiliation.
FOUL MAGIC ORDER
Necromancer
A mage tainted by foul magic who is able to manipulate the flesh of the dead, extract the spirit of a living being and manipulate the life essence through nefarious means. As a subclass, the blood mages use blood rituals to bind the aether and transform both living and dead flesh into undead creatures.
Summoner
Often outcasts in the mage community, this mage uses Foul and wild magic to break through the veil and draw Vel demons from the plane of existence, often cooperating with necromancers to corrupt the aether of the dead bodies, creating a Vel demon.
Cursegiver
Cursegiver mages that are weak in Aether manipulation but have a talent for disrupting the Aether of objects and people, which causes what seems like bad luck but is, in fact, their inherent magic running wild. Often known for creating objects that cause similar effects (fetishes)
Dreamwalker
A controversial branch of magic. in order to be a dream walker, the mage needs to have Foul magic in their blood. However, dreamwalking itself is looked upon as a subset of psychic magic as the mage influences the unconscious person's emotions and thoughts whilst in a dream state
