Chapter 3

Chapter

Three

Desiree packed up her blanket and folded up her chair and repacked her motorcycle. She put on her leathers over her shorts and tank top.

As she climbed onto her motorcycle, she lifted her face into the wind and let it take the last of her tension away. She’d just started her motorcycle when her phone rang.

“Hello.”

“Hey Olly. Where are you at?”

“Just getting ready to leave the beach in Jax’s. What’s up?”

Desiree knew something was wrong with the way her best friend, Andrea “Ivy” Sterling sounded. She never panicked.

In all the years she’s known the woman, she’s never panicked about anything. Andrea was the one who always kept her cool when shit hit the fan.

“I’ve been trying to call you for the last two hours.”

“Sorry my phone was on silent and in my saddle bags. Everything okay?”

Desiree couldn’t help the worry creeping into her voice at Andrea’s voice. What the hell was going on?

“Jose? Teddy?” The first thoughts that went through her mind were her brothers.

Her brothers, Jose and Teddy, were all the family she had left, aside from those she called sisters in the MC. She didn’t know what she would do if anything happened to either of her brothers.

“On their way to you. They should be at your location anytime now.”

Huh? Jose and Teddy drove three hours to Jacksonville to find her.

Before she could respond, a black SUV pulled in behind her motorcycle. Four doors opened to show four men, worried, angry men, getting out of the SUV.

Jose and Teddy rushed up to her and looked her over before pulling her into a hug. Once they released her, she took in a deep breath of air.

“Okay, what the hell is going on and why are you two shaking like you thought something happened to me?” Desiree looked her two brothers over from head to toe like they had her.

“We’ve all been trying to get ahold of you for the last two to three hours. You haven’t been answering your phone.” Teddy “Bear” Lewis stared Desiree down as he backed up slightly.

“Okay. Why does everyone need to get a hold of me so badly? I told you guys I was going to the beach today. Not like I just up and disappeared.” Desiree glared at her brothers.

“You still should have had your phone where we could have gotten in touch with you.” Jose growled at her, running his hands through his hair, messing up his ponytail.

“What the hell is going on? Why are you guys so on fucking edge?” Desiree asked again, looking between her two brothers.

“A package was left on your doorstep, from what we able to pull from your ring camera. The package exploded when some porch pirate came by to steal it. We didn’t know if it was you until the camera footage came up.” Geramie “Tiny” Moser stepped forward, his hand on Jose’s shoulder to calm him down.

Desiree jumped back at Tiny’s statement. Someone tried to kill her with a package bomb.

“How bad was the porch pirate hurt?” Desiree asked, looking at the three men standing in front of her.

“They were killed. Face and hands were completely blown off. Upper body was mangled good. Incendiary device was used in the package to go off three seconds after it was picked up.”

Desiree couldn’t help the panic that took over her body at the news she was just given. Who the hell would send her a package to explode?

“How did you figure out it wasn’t me?” Desiree asked, looking between the three men.

“The outfit. No way would my sister wear skinny jeans like the ones that were melted to the body and the boots were hideous. Plus there were no tattoos on the arms that I could see.”

“You couldn’t have lead with that? Seriously had to talk about skinny jeans and ugly boots?

” Desiree glared at Teddy as she shook her head.

“Look, I’m sorry you guys had to drive all the way out here to find me.

I am okay. I’m heading back to the house now.

I’ll talk to the police and we can go from there.

If you guys want to, you can follow behind me or I’ll just meet you at the house. ”

“We’ll follow behind you. If someone is after you, once word gets out that the package didn’t get you, I want your six covered at all times. Even now.” Jose “Priest” Lewis told his sister, leaving no room for questions.

“Bossy much, old man?” Desiree fired back at her brother, sticking her tongue out at him.

“I’ll show you old man.”

Desiree couldn’t help but laugh as her brother pulled her in for a headlock. She was able to push him off after pinching his sides and he grunted.

Times like this, she was glad she had come back home to Fayetteville to be near her family instead of moving away to a remote location where no one could find her. Her brothers always had her back even in the dark times.

Jose was prior Delta Force and was damn proud of all that she had accomplished. While Desiree never went Delta, she’d accomplished more than most women in the military.

Teddy was now Delta and she was damn proud of what he’d accomplished. Both of her brothers took after their dad and had gone into Delta Force.

Teddy always joked that he couldn’t let his big sister do better than him. It would destroy his man card.

She and Jose always joked that Teddy was still earning his man card. They were as close as siblings could be, which is rare in families.

“We’ll follow behind you. Don’t try any shenanigans to lose us. We’ll just get pissed and then put you on house arrest until this shit is dealt with. Brat.” Jose warned her as he ruffled her hair.

“Me? Shenanigans? Please! I would never.” Desiree feigned shock at her brother’s words.

She couldn’t help but shake her head and laugh when both Jose and Teddy kept staring at her, unimpressed by her joke. She blew them both a kiss and put her motorcycle helmet on.

“Just try to keep up. I don’t have time for your driving Ms. Daisy shit.”
