28. Finley #3
Derven snarled, but he knew I was right.
Giving me a searing kiss, he slipped into the car and peeled out of the back alley.
Relief flooded me as I knew she was going to be safe and I didn’t need to fear that part going wrong.
Flipping my knives in my hands, I looked at the fight between father and son, trying to determine if I should involve myself or not.
By the looks of pure loathing in Zander’s eyes, I felt it was best to leave it to him but knowing his father was a bastard, I stayed to watch.
I would intervene if I needed to or be able to heal Zander right away when it was done.
The two wolves were merciless, teeth tearing, claws slicing through fur and skin.
The sound of impact when they crashed into each other was brutal.
The wound I gave Gareth earlier was still bleeding thanks to my knives being pure silver slowing him down slightly.
The older werewolf knew how to fight and wasn’t afraid to use what he needed to gain the advantage.
He spotted me watching, flashing me a teeth-filled smile as he slammed Zander into the SUV his men were supposed to get Morwyn into.
The blow stunned Zander, so when his father came charging at me, he wasn’t there to stop him.
What this old bastard didn’t realize about me is that I wasn’t the wilting flower of your average omega and I noticed in the fight his iron pendant was missing.
As he launched himself at me, I didn’t flinch.
Instead, I took hold of my magic and caught him in midair with the ivy that was crawling all over the side of the building and tightened it.
He struggled to get free, the ivy twining around his throat, causing his eyes to bug out at the lack of air.
“I told you I wasn’t just a damn omega,” I snapped, stepping up to him as the realization that he wasn’t going to get out of this alive hit him. Glancing over at Zander, I saw him shaking himself, trying to get his balance back as he padded over to me, standing at my side.
Looking the alpha dead in the eyes, I decided to share with him what the final act of my contract was with Morwyn.
“You were right. I am the person your wife was working with to free herself from you and everything you’ve forced on her.
Do you know what it means to make a contract with an elf?
Right, sorry you can’t answer, so I’m just going to assume you don’t. ”
I paced around him knowing each moment was killing him slowly, but being a werewolf, it wouldn’t kill him… at least, I didn’t think so.
“It’s an agreement of terms that I’m then bound to, and if I don’t fulfill them or try to stop whatever the agreement is, I will perish, and so will the other members of the contract,” I shared, flashing him the mark on my wrist. “Would you like to know the last thing on my list?”
There was a strangled growl as he thrashed harder.
“Something tells me you probably know it’s your life,” I mused, then pressed my blade to his chest. “The question is do I kill you fast or slow?”
“Little dove,” Zander called out to me, drawing my attention. “Do not stoop to that bastard’s level. Kill the man and let’s be done with this night. There will be much more that we need to handle.”
“Your son wants a quick death and I believe he’s right.
While you deserve to be cut into tiny pieces while you’re still living, what you don’t deserve is that much attention from me.
Nothing about you is worth my time,” I admitted as I slit his throat, then followed it up by plunging my knife into his heart.
“Die knowing that everything you strove for is going to be shattered into pieces, and you will be forgotten, wiped from memory, forever.”
I watched as the light dimmed in his eyes, then extinguished into nothingness. One of the worst members of our kind was dead, and so were the other alphas of his pack that sat with him at his table. They were on our master list to ensure they never made it out of that room alive.
Cleaning my knives off on my pants, I settled them into one hand as I plunged the other into Zander’s fur. “How badly are you hurt,” I asked, kneeling down beside him, letting my forehead rest on his.
My magic trickled into his body, healing even the smallest of scratches that it found along the way.
There was a massive gouge in his side and a deep bite on his back leg that were the worst of things.
Once he was fully healed, I used my magic to cleanse the blood from him, so his white coat was gleaming once more.
“Thank you, little dove, this is now finally over, and I no longer have to fear that man or what he might do to anyone else,” Zander said, licking my neck where he’d left his mate mark, sending tingles through my body.
Completely the wrong time and for that kind of thinking but more of a promise for what was to come later.
“Let’s go end this once and for all,” I sighed but paused as the mark on my wrist vanished from my skin.
The contract had been fulfilled and my fate was no longer tied to Morwyn.
I was free to do as I pleased once more.
I couldn’t help but smile, knowing this whole ordeal was over, but the battle had just begun.
