Chapter 30

MAVERICK

Dex dragged Mallory off to the hatchet tossing inside. I’d never been to a restaurant that had it before, but I took in the space when I cut through the restaurant. If there was anyone who wanted to throw sharp objects it was me.

Her professor had seduced Bridget to get her work.

Used it as his own. Let her be expelled in what, her senior year, for plagiarism?

I didn’t know anything about the jobs or field of math, but I assumed it had to be a small group, especially at that elite level.

Being labeled a plagiarist couldn’t be good for her chance of ever finishing her degree, or a career.

So she’d run, proverbial tail between her legs, back to Hunter Valley and got a job at James Corp. Being an assistant on a construction project wasn’t her dream job. Of course it wasn’t. Especially working day after day for a dick like Jimenez.

I had to wonder if her dream had been destroyed by one careless, dickless fucker. The guy who was the 1 on her sex quiz. The only guy who she’d been with had used her.

I’d get her to tell me what her dream was, then help her achieve it. Because she’d been screwed over enough.

No one was going to fuck with her now.

Hell, the fuck, no.

Yeah, I wanted to throw some shit. Starting with a man in Massachusetts.

But I couldn’t. I had to focus on Bridget. On the here and now.

Like right fucking now.

With my hands on her hips, I lifted Bridget to her feet, then stood. I took her hand, ensuring she didn’t run, but also so she knew my next move included her.

“We’re getting out of here.”

Theo and Silas nodded, but didn’t say anything, only gave me looks that told me without words that they were going to help finish that fucker.

He was going down.

Down.

“Come on, baby,” I said, kissing her temple, then leading her out of the restaurant and to my car.
