Chapter 42
GEORGIA
I woke up hot. Stifled. A furnace was at my back and a heavy arm was–
Oh sweet Lord above.
Mac.
I was in bed with Mac.
Or, I was in Mac’s bed. With Mac.
The night before, after Mac left for the emergency, I gave Andy some space.
I’d already had one discussion with him about me not being his new mom that hadn’t stuck, so I’d had no intention of trying again.
Especially when I found him asleep in Grumpy’s bed.
Obviously, his plan was to keep me from sleeping in there.
The little guy forced me into Mac’s bed.
There was no way I was sleeping in Andy’s little race car bed or the couch downstairs.
For being six, Andy was really focused on his New Mom Agenda. If I wasn’t his main target, I’d be impressed.
There was only one option. I changed the sheets on Mac’s bed and eventually fell asleep. I definitely tossed and turned, imagining Mac in here. And how he’d wanted to have some fun with me and my vibrator. How he just wanted to fuck.
Gah!
If that wasn’t enough, my mind wandered to other questions. Did he sleep naked? Was he a snuggler when he slept with someone or did he sleep sideways and take up all the space? Did he bring other women to his bed? Was I the only one pitiful enough to make it to his king-sized lair and be all alone?
That one had me punching the pillow and trying to settle longer than any other thought.
I must’ve conked out because I completely missed Mac coming home sometime during the night and climbing in bed. And pulling me into his arms.
One thought answered: He was a snuggler when he slept because we were like two spoons in a drawer with his muscled arm flung over my waist. And yup, that was his big palm cupping my breast through my pajama top.
I swallowed hard, tried not to breathe or move or do anything to wake him. Because I was cataloging every hard inch of him–and I meant every hard inch–along my back. It felt so good to be in someone’s arms again, to feel protected. To be wanted even when asleep.
Because Mac wasn’t moving at all. His arm was a heavy band over me. I felt his warm breath fanning my neck.
There was soft gray light coming from the window, indicating it wasn’t yet dawn.
“Mac,” I murmured.
“Hmmmm,” he replied, not stirring.
“You’re smothering me.”
His arm over my hip slid back and I could roll over.
“Not used to a man in your bed?” he asked, his voice rough from sleep.
I frowned, but he couldn’t see me. He asked as if this was the only way two people slept together.
“My ex slept like a starfish so we each had our own side.” More like he had most of the bed and I had the edge.
This was… nice. He wanted to be in bed with me. Knew I was here and held me even when he wasn’t awake. I wasn’t relegated to the side, but we were together right in the middle.
Mac asleep was so different than him awake. He was still big and rough-edged, but he was relaxed. Peaceful. Snuggly.
Mac, a snuggler. Who knew? The winter wouldn’t be too bad if I had a man like him to keep me warm all night.
I smiled, eyeing his mustache. From the other night, I knew exactly what it felt like between my thighs.
“I can hear you thinking,” he said. “I have a feeling you should share those thoughts aloud.”
How did he know I was having sexy ideas that involved him? And me. Us.
“Andy will find us,” I said.
His lids opened and that dark gaze held mine. “He told us to try it. Well, I did the other day and I like it. He’s a smart kid.”
“I thought you were supposed to be at work,” I prodded. It was too dark to be the end of his shift.
“We had to get a second crew for the call. Everyone heard about my dad and even though he’s doing okay, Smutters offered to finish my shift for me.”
“That was nice of him,” I said. I knew how much the guy made Mac cranky.
He raised his arm, looked at his watch. “We have at least an hour before Andy wakes up. Come ‘ere.”
He pulled me in so our bodies pressed together again, my arms caught between us. My head was tucked beneath his chin.
He was bare chested, definitely, but I couldn’t tell if he was wearing underwear or not through my satin pajamas. I could tell he was very hard.
“Fuck, I really like waking up to you.”
Warmth seeped through me from his words, not just from his body.
“Georgia,” he said.
“Hmm?”
“I think there’s something else we should try that I know we’ll both like.”
I couldn’t help but giggle. “Oh yeah?”
He shifted, rolling me onto my back and then coming up over me.
“Yeah.”
