Chapter 27

Chapter Twenty-Seven

Hunter

G olf wasn't my favorite sport at all. Over the years, however, I had been forced to not only learn how to play it but how to play it well as well. Due to the industry I was in, which consisted mostly of much older people, basketball wasn’t exactly their sport of choice when they needed to have friendly meetings or matches like this one. Early that morning, we arrived at the clubhouse and met the officials along with the Swedish business manager and his team who were already waiting.

I was immediately upset to see him there, but he was an evil I couldn't get rid of just yet, so I tried my best to ignore him. After the initial greetings and some light breakfast, it was time to head out to the course. I had been preoccupied all morning with handling the situation in New York and entertaining my present guests, so I hadn't paid much attention to Madison.

It was hard now not to notice her. All the other men in the club did. She was in the usual golf skirt and T-shirt, with her hair up in a ponytail. To say that she looked gorgeous was nothing but an understatement, but I tried not to stare. I headed over to her then and wished that I could kiss her. In that moment, truly, it felt like I needed the kiss but all I could do was stare at her and sigh.

“Do you need something, Sir?” she replied.

“Are you coming along?” I asked, taking in the bag she had slung over her shoulder. I knew it contained everything she needed to work and communicate with the office. She was dressed for the course, but it was very apparent that she was aware that she was working and would have no time whatsoever for playing or leisurely shenanigans.

“Yes, Sir,” she replied. “Y-you don’t want me to?”

“It might get hotter later on,” I replied, looking out across the lush green course.

“That’s okay, I have sunscreen and my hat,” she replied with a smile. And then I watched the smile spread across her face. “Do you have sunscreen, Sir? I didn’t mean to bother you.”

Before now, I had truly never been bothered that she called me Sir, and now, it didn't bother me, but it did something strange to me. Namely, it made me feel even hornier around her. I didn’t get the kick of respect I was sure she intended by addressing me in this way. Instead, it felt as though she was role-playing and teasing me with every mention of the word.

This was such a foolish thought because I was her boss; however, the implications of this beyond just ensuring that she kept my life and schedule organized had never really occurred to me the way it did now.

“Yes I put on sunscreen and you can stay here,” I replied. “If you want, of course. You’re out of the sun, you’re not overheated, and you can monitor the work on the desk over there.”

“Oh,” she said and nodded. I could see her face fall slightly, and as always, I was going to ignore it, but I couldn't. I grabbed her arm before she could go out of my sight.

“I’m not trying to drive you away, I just... I don’t want to strain you necessarily. But if you think being on the course is what you prefer, then of course, come along.”

She stared at me then, with a smile on her face. It was shy, and it made the corners of my mouth curve as well.

“I’d like to come along and stay in the golf cart. I worked at a golf course when I was much younger, and I enjoyed the sport. I haven’t had the time or chance to return again, so I’d really like to relive the experience.”

“It’s settled then,” I replied, and her smile this time, fully exposing her gorgeous white teeth, was blinding.

“Thank you, Sir,” she replied, and we headed out together. I saw Felix, the Swedish man, watching us, and once again, I couldn't help but sigh. The officials called out to me, so I had to leave her to her own devices.

“Let me know if there's any update from the office,” I said, and she nodded.

“Yes, Sir.”
