Chapter 5

The sound of my phone ringing and vibrating on the nightstand jolted me from my sleep, causing my eyes to fly open.

The mind-blowing sex Jax had delivered last night flashed through my head as the morning light seeped through the curtains.

The light sound of a man’s snore let me know he hadn’t snuck out on me in the wee hours of the morning, even though I wish he had.

“Shit!”

I raised slightly in search of my phone, spotting it on the other side of Jax. The fact that he was still here was confusing the fuck out of me. Why had I let this man stay the night? That was rule number one when entertaining one-night stands. Get the dick and get out of dodge.

“Jax!”

I nudged him just as my phone started vibrating again. Lifting up slightly, I reached over Jax’s naked body and retrieved it, glancing at the screen to see who it was.

“Nope, not right now.”

I shook my head as I declined the video call request from my mom.

Of course, it was my mom calling. We never missed a morning check in.

I glanced between my phone and Jax. I’d rather not explain my life choices to her right now.

My mom was my best friend but explaining why I was naked in bed with infamous hockey ho Jaxton Saint on the most important morning of my life wasn’t on my to-do list.

“Jaxton, wake up.”

I nudged him again, leaning closer. He stirred just a little, mumbling something unintelligible and pulling me into his arms.

“Jaxton,” I whined. My voice grew louder. “You got to leave.”

“Leave?” He cracked one eye open and grinned. “I ain’t never leaving.”

His deep, groggy voice sent shivers down my spine. This man had no business being this damn intoxicating. He almost had me wanting to lie up and cuddle, and that was something I hadn’t done since Avery passed.

“You can’t stay,” I reminded him, trying to assert some authority as his hands roamed my body.

“It’s almost noon.” I sighed. “God, if someone sees you leaving my room… I can’t have any scandal attached to my name, Jaxton! Especially not this early in my career.”

A cocky smile displayed on his lips.

“But I haven’t gotten enough of you yet.” He snaked his hand between my legs and rubbed it across my wet folds. “Shit, it’s ready for me.”

“Jax—” I protested but a soft moan rolled off my lips. My body was giving in to him.

“You are worried too much about people knowing we were together. It can be good for your image,” he said.

“Or they’ll think I’m your latest conquest,” I shot back, rolling my eyes. “Sneak linking with Jaxton Saint isn’t the publicity I want fueling my career.”

“Who said I was just a sneaky link?” he countered, popping one of my breasts in his mouth. “Mm, I love these big juicy motherfuckers.”

He rolled his tongue over my nipple.

“Jax—”

I squirmed. My pussy begged for him to enter me again.

His mouth felt so perfect, and flashes of how good he slurped me up last night played in my head.

The phone vibrated again, sending some common sense floating back to my brain.

The glam squad the network had hired to get me ready for the award show was on the way.

I had to snap out of the trance he had me in and get Jaxton Saint out of my room before that became the headline.

“Jax, you need to move. Hair and makeup are on their way here.”

He groaned dramatically then sat up, running a hand through his hair.

“Shit. What time is it?”

“Almost noon.”

“Damn! That good ass pussy knocked me out like that? Did you know that motherfucker was that damn good?”

“Yes, Jax. Come on, please.”

“You gonna leave me like this?”

He pulled the covers back, revealing his hard dick, and my pussy jumped. If we had time, I would have indulged him again, but we didn’t have time.

“Yes!” I replied, pushing up from his grasp.

“Damn. It’s like that?” He tried grabbing me, but I held up my hand.

“Listen, last night was fun. It was exactly what I needed when I needed it, but you gotta go.” I stood from the bed and started gathering his things. He obviously needed a little push.

“Alright. Fine. I’ma bounce, but only if you promise to text me later.” He sighed, swinging his legs over the side of the bed. The fresh morning light glistened off his perfect body. Damn, he wasn’t a bad sight to wake up to in the morning.

“I don’t have your number.” I tossed him his pants before wrapping my robe around my naked body.

“You do now.” Jaxton grabbed my phone off the bed, and before I could protest, he was calling his. Suddenly, I was regretting not having face identification on my phone.

“Okay, fine. I’ll text you,” I shot back, crossing my arms across my body. I would tell him whatever he needed to hear as long as he left.

“Don’t keep me waiting either. I’ll miss you too much,” he replied, winking as he tossed his t-shirt over his head.

“You move this slow after every random hook up?”

“Nope. You’re special, Faye Baby.” Jax shot me a playful stare, that made my heart flutter. I almost believed he was being genuine, but I knew better.

“Sure, I am.” I twisted up my lips.

“You are special, Faye Baby,” he repeated in a serious tone.

It was almost as if he wanted more than just one night with me. I mean, he had been hinting toward that, but I knew not to trust nothing a man said during sex. This though? This seemed sincere. Was that even possible? I stood there a minute, gazing into his eyes.

“Let me get going.”

Jax moved and started gathering his things around the room, leaving me standing there with a million questions.

Could I have a budding romance with someone like Jax?

Was I ready for that? As far as I was concerned, Avery was my one true love.

I’d given my all to him. I didn’t think I had it in me to do it again.

No, I had a career to grow. I couldn’t afford the distraction.

Jaxton was a playboy. I’d never seen him seriously attached to a woman.

Could my career make it through something like a bad breakup? My head was spinning.

The sound of my phone vibrating again made me jump as I rushed to pick it up from the bed. The glam squad was in route to my room.

“Oh, Lord! They’re here! You really need to go.”

“Alright. I’m going.” He pulled on his shorts and slid on his shoes before we both headed to the door. A wave of relief washed over me.

“Let me just peek out.”

I opened the door and stuck my head out in the hallway. It was empty. Maybe everyone had stayed late at the party.

“Okay, it’s clear?—”

My voice halted as the door shut from the force of Jaxton pushing me against the door frame with that sexy smile on full display.

“What? I don’t get a kiss?”

He stepped in close, tilting my chin up with a finger. His lips brushed against mine before he pressed the kiss deeper.

“Jax…” I moaned. My mouth opened, allowing his tongue to wrestle with mine. Shit! I loved kissing this man.

“Make no mistake,” he whispered, pulling back just enough to see my face. “Last night was just the beginning of us.”

“Jax—”

“I’ll see you in a few hours, Faye Baby.”

He stepped back, opening the door with a wink before he slipped out, leaving me standing there with more mixed emotions than I knew what to do with. I ran my hand up to my mouth and touched my lips like I was trying to savor him.

“He is insane!”

I sighed as I shut my hotel room door behind Jax.

That good dick having nigga was insane. The crazy ones were always attached to good dick.

I shook my head, leaning against the door.

As much as I enjoyed my time with Jax, I knew I had to draw the line.

Getting involved with him would mean mixing pleasure with the seriousness of my work, and I had no interest in anyone thinking I’d slept my way to the top.

“Damn, too bad,” I muttered to myself, shaking my head. A silly smile crept on my face. I did like his fine ass, though. Maybe more than I should have.

“In another lifetime.” I shook my head as I ran off to the shower. I needed to wash Jaxton’s smell off me before my glam squad arrived.

A knock on the door sounded just as I exited the bathroom.

“One minute!” I yelled, rushing to wrap myself in a fresh robe quickly.

“Your glam squad is here!” Several cheerful voices rang out from the other side of the door.

My face lit up with excitement as I made my way to the left. I was getting the complete Hollywood treatment tonight—celebrity makeup, hair, and a celebrity escort. I was ecstatic.

“Coming!” I called back, making sure my robe was secure before I opened the door.

I didn’t get the door open good before two beautiful, flamboyant men burst inside. One was rolling two huge suitcases, and one carried a chair.

“Hey, girl! I’m Marcus and this is Zack,” the shortest one said.

I recognized the duo from social media. They worked with a ton of celebrities and influencers. Anybody who was somebody got their hair and makeup done by Marcus and Zack.

“We’re here to get you looking like a bad bitch for the awards show! Can we take a look at your dress?”

“Sure. Come on in,” I replied, leading them further into the room. “Wait right here.”

I took off toward the closet to retrieve tonight’s gown. My dress had been delivered yesterday from some fancy designer whose name I couldn’t pronounce. It was gorgeous. The perfect mix of sexy and professional. Pulling it out of the closet, I returned to the gentlemen.

“The star of the show!” I hung the dress on the bedroom door so they could take in the full glory of the shimmering blue number that hugged my curves just right.

Marcus clapped his hands.

“Yes! I can work with that. Are you comfortable with bold, or do you like to keep it natural?” he asked.

“Can we do both?” I questioned.

“What you thinking? Bold eyes and natural lip,” he suggested and nodded.

I wasn’t shy when it came to makeup. I could appreciate a full-face beat, but I didn’t want to give too much on my first red carpet.
