Chapter 7
Kade
I roll over and my arms are locked tight around Ava after comforting her back to sleep from her dream.
I run my finger over her lips, moist from her now rhythmic breathing after calming her down.
Not one part of what was supposed to be a simple assignment, an easy initiation, went as it was planned.
I’m just lucky to have gotten out before all hell broke loose at her mother’s house, and that I was there to get her out of the city before Bernatelli’s rival crew came looking for her.
I stroke her silky hair, pushing it back behind her ear.
Never should I have let this thing get as far as it did, never should I have taken her to bed, or let her sleep with me, but at the time it was never going to be any other way, the attraction between the two of us too strong.
I slide out of bed, letting her sleep instead of ravaging her with my morning hard on, made worse today than any other morning in history with her lying by my side without clothes underneath that blanket, the softness of her bare mound and legs entangled with me under the cover.
I get dressed, put the coffee pot on, and then head out to get more wood cut to bring inside. We can spend the morning out on the snowmobile while I check some of my cameras, and then won’t have to leave the cabin the rest of the day to go haul in wood.
My phone buzzes. “This is Kade.”
“This is Damian. We’ve got a problem. The rival gang didn’t find Paulie before him and his friend split, but they must have gotten to someone because they know where the haul’s coming in at now.”
I scowl at the phone. “You have more than me on the inside.”
He doesn’t answer, which already tells me my answer. Damian and I will talk about this later because if I’m going to work with him and his crew for the Larussio family, then holding out information like this is a bunch of bullshit, even if I’m not on the damn payroll yet.
“Bernatelli’s gotta be running girls again with all the secrecy on the street about this load,” Damian says.
“We need eyes on that shipment. The only one who can get that close to it is you, through Paulie. We’re pretty sure he knows exactly what’s in the shipping crate coming into that dock, probably right in the middle of some double cross, but we need details. ”
“I’ll leave the girl here, find Paulie, that son of a bitch, and we’ll find out what this project is all about if I have to beat it out of him.”
