Chapter 19
Chapter Nineteen
Nico
Iwake up the next morning to the sound of a door opening and shutting, followed by light conversation. My eyes slowly lift before I take in my surroundings. Pale pink walls, delicate feminine décor and a woman that is absolutely not my girlfriend.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
Pushing Cassi to the side as gently as I can, I rush for my clothes, glancing at the time on her phone.
8:15am.
Son of a bitch.
I forgot to set an alarm on account of me leaving it on the couch and coming running upstairs last night. She literally said jump and I was already in the air. Goddamnit, how did I let this happen?
A sleepy looking Cassi sits up, her bottom half still completely naked as she murmurs.
“What’s the matter?”
“We slept in. It’s a quarter after seven.”
Her dazed look vanishes, her eyes bugging out of her head as she looks at her phone.
“FUCK! I’m gonna be late for work,” she says as she rushes for that bathroom.
I intercept her before she can and hold her in place for a moment before stealing a kiss.
“I leave before you get off work but I want you to text me throughout the day and let me know when you’re safe.”
“Okay,” she says as she attempts to get past me.
“And I want you to come see me in Boston. Soon. I’ll send the plane, I’ll come and get you myself if that’s what it takes.”
“Really?” she asks, pausing for a moment.
I can’t help but let out a short laugh as I shake my head and press a kiss to her lips.
“Really. Promise me you’ll come? We can just…be.”
Her face softens at my words as she nods.
“I’d love to.”
A huge smile spreads across my face before I can stop it as I dip down and scoop her up for one last kiss, holding her face like I’m being shipped off to war and this could be the last kiss we ever share.
She tears away from me with a goofy smile as she playfully shoos me away and rushes to the bathroom, shutting the door before the sound of the shower turns on. I find myself still staring after her grinning. I know for a fact that wasn’t our last kiss, though. I’ll be making sure of it.
Turning to leave her room, I carefully open her door, looking from side to side before I step out. I only make it a step or two before I crash right into Mary. I steady her quickly as she startles.
“Oh!”
“Shit, I’m sorry. Are you okay?” I ask.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Did you come out of Cassi’s room?” she asks, confusion coloring her expression.
I falter only for a moment before I shake my head.
“Half asleep from the bathroom trying to find my way back to Carly’s room. You’d think after a week here I’d be more acclimated,” I laugh.
Mary looks at me like she doesn’t believe my shit for one second but for some reason, she lets it go, nodding her head in agreement.
“Been there. Can I whip you up some breakfast before I head to work?”
“Absolutely not,” I say with a shake of my head. “You’re too kind, really. Besides. I still need to pack and nag Carly for the tenth time to do the same,” I say with faux irritation that seems to finally put Mary at ease.
She laughs at that and nods. “Good luck with that.”
“Thanks, have a good day at work!” I say as I shake my head and move towards Carly’s room.
When I open the door, I expect her to be asleep still.
All she has done since we’ve been back is sleep and party, I swear.
To my surprise, though, she’s up. Not only is she up but she’s dressed, make up on and hair curled.
She’s also standing next to her luggage along with another bag she didn’t bring with her originally.
Carly turns to look at me, her nose wrinkling in disapproval.
“You look like shit.”
I scoff and shake my head but don’t say anything as I move to the things I left in the room and begin gathering some new clothes.
“I didn’t expect you to be up and at it so early. Our flight isn’t until two.”
“Yeah, change of plans, actually,” she says.
I turn my head to look at her as she shrugs.
“Danielle’s loser boyfriend dumped her and they were supposed to go on a cruise to the Caribbean so she invited me.”
“When is this?” I ask.
“We leave today, like, right now actually,” she says as she looks down at her phone and begins wheeling her luggage past me.
“What? You’re not coming back to Boston?” I ask.
She pauses at the door and turns.
“I will when I’m back. It’s just a ten day cruise.”
“Were you going to tell me?” I scoff.
“Well, I would have but you wanted nothing to do with me last night,” she says, gnashing her teeth in my direction.
I don’t even attempt to play into her dramatics as I shake my head.
“Carly, we have to talk.”
“I can’t talk right now. I’ll call you when I land in Miami and if I have service I’ll text you here and there. Love ya,” she says as she leans in and presses a kiss to my cheek before strutting out of her room and down the hall.
I stand there practically speechless for a moment before I shake my head.
What the fuck ever.
I called the office and had my meeting pushed back to Monday, giving me the entire weekend free thankfully, and I knew exactly how I was going to spend it.
After a few more calls with my pilot, I was able to make all of the arrangements and accommodations for the trip and now I just had to run the final errand.
At 5:02PM, I open the front door just as Cassi is walking out of her job, pausing when she sees me.
“What are you doing here?” she asks. “Wasn’t your flight at two?”
“Change of plans, c’mon,” I say, holding my hand out for her.
She frowns, slipping her hand into mine as she speaks.
“Where are we going?”
“To Boston. I said soon, you agreed.”
Her eyes widen in surprise as she shakes her head.
“What about Carly?”
I shrug. “She took off on a girls trip with Danielle and I pushed my meeting to Monday. The jet is waiting for us.”
She blinks as I walk her towards my car.
“My car is here, my parents won’t accept me just disappearing without a trace.”
“Leave it here and tell them you’re spending the weekend with some friends.”
She pauses before arguing once more.
“What about clothes? A toothbrush?”
“Believe it or not, Boston has these state of the art places called stores,” I smirk as we get to the passenger’s side of the car.
“But—”
She starts as I pull her in for a kiss, instantly silencing her as I pull back and smile.
“Stop trying to come up with reasons why you can’t go, and get in the fucking car.”
Cassi looks up at me before a small smile crosses her face and she nods.
Opening the door for her, I let her slide in before shutting it, not able to wipe the excited smile off my face. An entire weekend with her, just the two of us in my city.
