Chapter 36
Ruby
Iwake up feeling… sore.
Not in a “ran a marathon” way. In a “last night was a spiritual event” way.
My body feels warm all over. My lips feel used. My thighs feel like they’ve been handled.
Oh god.
I groan and cover my face.
Everything comes back in flashes:
His mouth.
His hands.
The table.
The whispered “Good girl.”
The way he held me afterward, breathing hard against my skin like he couldn’t let go.
My entire body heats.
“NO,” I tell myself. “We are NOT thinking about that. We are thinking about NOTHING.”
But my body remembers. Oh, it remembers.
I have The Glow. The dreaded, unmistakable, post-kissing-your-billionaire-boss glow.
I shower, dress, and try desperately to look like a woman who did not make stupidly intimate decisions in a tinted-glass conference room.
I fail.
I look soft. I look flustered. I look… well-loved.
This is a crime.
I walk into the office praying for invisibility.
Instead, I get Ava.
“GOOD MORNING, ANGEL OF SIN.”
I choke on my own breath.
Oh no.
Oh no no no no, My phone buzzes.
27 new messages.
I'm dead.
