Chapter 9 #2

A few minutes later, he returned with a plate with the same thing for him, but he had a glass of milk instead. We held hands, and he quickly blessed the food. He looked at me while I squeezed syrup over everything on my plate.

“Baby, what the hell?”

“Mind your business, Sylas. This is how I like mine.”

“Drowning in syrup? That’s childish.”

“So is minding somebody else’s business, yet here you are in mine.”

He chuckled as his head went from left to right. I was able to eat my first few bites in peace, and they were good.

“Did I pass?” he asked.

“Yeah, but it’s breakfast. It’s kinda hard to mess that up.”

“Damn. You’re a hard one.”

“I’m not. You did good, and I’m pleased. Thank you for going through the trouble.”

“It was no trouble at all. I’m glad it passed your test.”

“With flying colors. So . . .”

“Uh-oh. Should I be worried?”

“Only if you don’t want to meet my parents. My mother asked about meeting you when I told her I was coming to visit.”

“I’d love to meet your parents. We’re having dinner with mine tomorrow, as well as Taylor and Maison.”

“Wait. What? Were you gonna tell me?”

“Eventually.”

“Sylas, you can’t just spring something like that on someone.”

“Do you not want to go? I can reschedule.”

“We can’t reschedule, because we barely see each other as it is. Plus, I don’t want your family to think I don’t want to meet them.”

“They won’t think that, baby. I’ll reschedule—”

“I said it’s fine.”

“Are you mad?” he asked in a soft tone.

“No, just surprised. I hope what I brought to wear is appropriate to meet the family.”

“I’m sure it’s fine. I can meet your parents the next time our schedules align, which should be soon. I talked to a few people about getting you on my crew.”

“Really? And they said they’d switch me?”

“They didn’t want to make any promises, but I’m hopeful.”

I didn’t comment and returned my attention to my food. Of course, Sylas noticed my slight shift in energy and questioned me about it.

“You don’t seem excited about the possibility of working with me.”

“I’m excited, but I don’t want to get my hopes up.”

He nodded, and we finished our meal in silence. I helped him clean the kitchen, and afterward, he gave me the tour he promised. His condo was very upscale, with a beautiful view through floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room.

I was surprised there was only one bedroom, but it was larger than both bedrooms in my apartment combined.

He even had a separate seating area with a couch and a second television in his bedroom.

His closet was massive and extremely organized.

The décor was very manly and suited his personality, with black, white, and shades of gray in each room.

“I love it,” I said as I sat on the couch in his bedroom.

He kneeled in front of me, nudging my legs open and resting between them on his elbows.

“Thank you. It’ll do until I’m ready to buy a house.”

“When do you think that’ll be?”

“When you agree to marry me.”

I smacked my lips and gently shoved his shoulder.

“Be serious.”

“I don’t think I’ve ever been more serious, but we don’t have to talk about that right now. Let’s talk about why your mood changed, and don’t tell me it didn’t because you didn’t hide it very well.”

“I don’t—”

“Khiya, we’ve talked about just about everything, so don’t get shy on me now. If you don’t feel comfortable meeting my family, that’s cool. If you don’t want to be on my flight crew, that’s cool, too. Tell me what’s on your mind, baby.”

I didn’t speak right away, taking a minute to get my thoughts together.

“I’d love to meet your family.”

“That only leaves one other thing, unless you got beef with me about something else.”

“I don’t have beef with you about anything. I’m a little worried about things changing between us.”

He looked confused.

“Changing how?”

“Since we aren’t able to spend a lot of time together, it gives us time to miss each other. Will the excitement disappear when it changes?”

Before addressing my statement, he took my hands in his, kissing the backs of each one softly.

“I can only speak for myself, and you have nothing to worry about on my end. I fully expect my feelings for you to become stronger with each moment we spend together. I want more opportunities to see you smile, to make you blush, to bury my nose in your neck and inhale your sweet scent, and do all the things I can’t do to you on the phone.

I’m not talking about eating your pussy or filling you with my seeds.

That’s a bonus if that’s something you want to happen while we’re together.

Baby, I just want more time with you. Is that okay? ”

He got the smile and flushed cheeks he loved so much because his sweet words had me swooning.

“Yes, baby. Thank you for being such a sweetheart.”

“Only for you, beautiful. I have something for you.”

“I hope it’s not another gift.”

“And if it is?”

“Sylas, you don’t have to buy me gifts. I already like you.”

He laughed. “I like you, too, and that’s all the more reason to shower you with gifts.”

“But I haven’t gotten anything for you.”

“That’s not necessary. All I want is you, baby. Do you want to see what I got for you or not?”

“I mean, since you went through the trouble.”

He stood, and I waited anxiously until he returned with a plain brown box and a pair of scissors. He placed the box on my lap with the scissors on top and sat next to me, leaving very little space.

I was giddy as I opened the box and looked inside, finding a Nike box. I hurriedly reached inside, pulled the box out, and snatched off the lid. I gasped when I saw the shoes inside.

“You did not get me the Travis Scott Fragments. Oh my God, Sylas.”

“I came across them when I was in New York and thought they’d be a nice addition to your collection.”

“Baby, these are not shoes you just come across.”

He shrugged. “That’s what happened.”

“I don’t believe you, but it doesn’t matter. You are literally the sweetest and most thoughtful human ever. Thank you so much.”

“You’re welcome.”

As much as I wanted to try the shoes on and prance around his bedroom, I had to show my man some love and appreciation, and I knew exactly how I would do it.
