Chapter 59

Dom’s arm was practically useless now. It hurt like the devil, but he’d been shot before. He could deal—right now, he had to get her out of there.

They were in a residential area. Not the best area of town either.

Maybe half a mile from Madison’s apartment complex.

The attackers were already driving away.

There was nowhere to turn around on this road now, but one block up—yes.

They were turning around and they were coming back.

To finish what they’d started. And there were two of them and only one of him.

His truck wasn’t exactly cover.

“Get out of the truck. Now. They will be back in seconds.”

She didn’t argue.

“Come on. My door. Let’s roll.”

“What are we going to do?”

Damned good question. “I don’t know. Just getting out of here first.”

The last thing he would let them do was find her. Not her.

Never her. Dom ignored the blood streaming down his shoulder.

He’d live, if he didn’t lose too much. And if those bastards didn’t run them to ground like animals.

His instincts flared. He wanted to stand his ground, take those bastards down himself.

Destroy the threat. But he wasn’t an idiot—he had her to protect. And he couldn’t take them down alone.

But he could get her to safety, and then go hunting.

He wouldn’t stop until he had those bastards in front of him. Made them pay for getting too close to her.

“We need to get to your car.”

“There is a shortcut. An alley. I’ve taken it a few times when they were doing road construction.”

“Let’s go.”

They’d be at her place in minutes. He’d left his truck in the middle of the damned block. Someone from Major Crimes would find it eventually. It would take the gunmen a moment to realize he’d left it.

That would hopefully buy them time.

Unless they were watching Madison’s place. Then he’d have to come up with a plan B.

After that…Dom didn’t have a clue where to go next.

Probably right back to where they’d come from. Or head to Barrattville—hide her with the Barratts behind armed walls.

And then…he was going hunting. Those animals wouldn’t last out there long.

He could almost guarantee that.

No one threatened her. No one.
