Chapter 111

Madison had an inkling what he was planning to do here. He was going to kill her and just leave her for Major Crimes to play a macabre game of Find-the-Mads. Not that hard to figure out. Well, if she removed herself from his game, then what?

He lost. Period. It was as simple as that.

The tunnel narrowed until she could feel it on each side of her. But at least they were past the drop-off.

That had been terrifying.

Not that the entire situation wasn’t terrifying.

Considering.

Madison just kept putting one foot in front of the other. Then there was another cavern there. And that was light up ahead. Probably from…another entrance or something. Or a sinkhole above, or something. Something, anything.

This cavern wasn’t super big, maybe as big as her mother’s living room. And there was a small bit of light near the middle of the cavern ceiling. This was probably the best opportunity she was going to get.

She twisted.

He had her by the shirt. She twisted again and kicked out.

She still wore the work boots she wore every day. She connected.

Right where she had wanted to. In a place her father had taught her to aim for a long, long time ago.

He let her go.

Her feet slipped on the rocks.

There was no way to get traction.

She just kept going. She kicked out again. He made a grab for her, but he let her go.

Madison turned back the way she had come and almost ran. She had counted the steps. She had felt her way along the shaft.

The only chance she had was to go back the way she had come.

She would get back to Dom, one step at a time.

No matter what it took.

Madison just kept going.
