Chapter Twenty-Seven

SETH

Logan raised a brow at me. “Why are you all smiley today?”

“'Cause he got laid,” Zack said without even missing a beat. He didn’t even look up from the stack of cards he was busy shuffling.

He had a big mouth. But I couldn’t deny the fact that spending almost the whole weekend with Violet made me extremely happy. We’d even made plans to stay overnight at the hotel near the college for the fundraising dinner she was invited to in a couple of weeks. I was really looking forward to it.

“Just deal the cards, Stoer,” I snapped.

He chuckled. “Oooh, salty! That didn’t take long.”

“Yes, because you annoy me.”

Zack inhaled dramatically and placed his hands over his heart. “You wound me.”

“I’m about to hurt you if you don’t deal the damn cards already.”

“Fine, fine.” He chucked again, but at least he started dealing out the cards.

Jay came up the stairs and tipped his chin my way. “Hey Seth, there’s some woman downstairs asking for you.”

I sat up straight. “Violet?” The thought had me pushing back my chair and jumping to my feet.

Jay shook his head. “Sorry, man. Not Violet.” He shrugged. “Some blonde.”

Blonde? I hadn’t had any issues with the random women showing up since Violet and I started fake dating a month ago, so I had no clue who it could be.

I made my way down the stairs. Only other blonde I knew…

I stopped dead in my tracks once I confirmed who it was. What the hell was she doing here?

“Lucy?”

She turned, a huge smile on her face. And the complete opposite of how I remember our last moments together.

“Seth.” She walked quickly toward me with her arms out. “I’ve missed you.”

I put my hands on her shoulders, stopping her from hugging me. “Lucy, what are you doing here?”

“I came to visit for a few days. I can stay with you, right?”

Was she serious?

She looked up at me and smiled shyly. “I realize I made a mistake. I regret not saying yes and moving here with you and starting our life together.”

She was serious. What the fuck. I started to shake my head, but the next words out of her mouth shocked me to my core.

“I’m pregnant.”

I didn’t know what to say. I just stared at her, wondering if I’d heard her correctly. My grip on her shoulders loosened and she took the opportunity to step into my space, wrapping her arms around my back.

I was going to be a father. And Lucy would be the mother of my child?
